Hi there, Welcome to the site! This forum is lovely!

Take a look at the pinned posts on the right there is one especially for newbies.

Lot's of people are doing the NHS 12 week challenge which is great. If you sign up they send you an e-mail full of tips every week.

There are lot's of first steps you can take, start to keep a food diary to see what your habits are. Look at your portion sizes, make sure there is the right proportion of carbs, protein and veg. Maybe just start by changing one or two things in your diet. Swap to high fiber wholewheat varieties of cereal, bread, rice or pasta? Or you could start taking more exercise just by walking more, or take up a sport you enjoy?

Whatever you decide, you can chat and post questions, ideas or have a moan on this forum and there will always be someone to listen and comment.

Good luck, and hope to see you around :-)

Hi Lornak

Welcome to the group. Firstly you really are making the right decision. I was 25 stone and had exactly the same problems. Bones hurting. Back aching due to my huge gut. Always tired, to the point of exhaustion and that was after a nights sleep.

Trawl the internet for tips and ideas on how to lose those extra pounds. Do not go near anything that makes a promise of 'lose your belly in 10 days' or 'lose 25lbs in a month' as they are just trying to get your money with false promises. There really is only one way of losing the weight and it is eat less move more. You can make really sensible food swaps that allow you to eat good nice nutritional meals but with far less calories. Make food swaps such as ditch white bread for whole grain bread. Ditch white pasta for whole wheat, white potato for sweet potato and don't have the sugar filled breakfasts, instead have porridge with fruit, or fruit and whole fat yogurt (your body needs fats to metabolise certain vitamins). There are many people on here whom have been there, done that and will have amazing tips and advice so use them and you wil succeed.

Good luck and stay motivated. On the days when you are low, get on here and get help.

Good morning Lornak and welcome to this very friendly forum you have definitely come to the right place for motivation and advice 👍

You have been given some great advice already but I just wanted to say hello and welcome 😀

I would only say .... Take baby steps!!! Loosing weight is 80% diet and 20% exercise. Eat well and try to move a little bit more everyday and you'll soon be getting up with no soreness 😆

Have you seen your gp regarding your back pain as there may be underlying issues which he/she can help with 💖

Good luck with your journey and take care xx

Hello and welcome to the forum 😊 You have some excellent advice there 😊 All exercise should be started slowly, and walking is excellent especially if the weather is good 😊 If not, I suggest having a look at Lesley Sansome Happy Walk on you tube 😊

Don't worry if you get tired in the beginning, j started out doing 10 minutes 2 or 3 times a day 😊 You will soon build up your fitness as you lose the pounds 😊 Very best wishes 😊

Maybe join us for the Monday group weigh-in, if you like the idea of a weekly weigh-in in a supportive group. The post is always in the Events section, and we have a Morning and an Afternoon/Evening session, so feel free to join us there tomorrow, if you like that idea.

Lowcal :-)
