Newbie with compulsive eating problem

Hi, newbie here still reeling from the news received this week that I am 'clinically obese' 4 stones overweight having succumbed to an 18 month long manic eating disorder. Heaviest i've ever been in my life. Immediately after leaving doctors surgery , I sat in my car crying knowing that I MUST now face up to what I am doing to myself, then headed straight for the pasty shop. !! I am soo miserable & fed up of looking at my ever growing disgusting body. Why cant I find the motivation to do something about it?? !! Help !!!!!!!!!!!! My pic is me at 10 stone - 5 years ago, Where has that girl gone ?? :(

Hugs! Compulsive eating disorder is very difficult, i have food issues also. Did the doc refer you to counselling?- you might need a multi strand approach. Try not to beat yourself up, you dont lack willpower or motivation, you have an eating disorder, which isnt your fault. But the good news is eating disorders are treatable, you just need the right support. Xx

Hi iddy8888'

Welcome to the Weight Loss NHS forum. It’s great that you’ve joined, and what a lovely photo.

Take a look at the Pinned Posts section, to the right of your screen (bottom, if you're using a mobile) and have a look at the Welcome Newbies thread.

Look at the Topics section beneath that, for posts that could answer any questions you may have. Consider joining any, or all, of our challenges, as they're fun and motivating.

Join us for the Monday Group weigh-in. If you follow Lowcal and Moreless (our very approachable site Admins), you'll be notified when they post the threads. The latest weigh-in thread can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page.

Be active on the forum, as that's where we exchange ideas and get our daily dose of motivation and inspiration.

Enjoy the forum, and wishing you success with your goals.

Hello Hidden :)

Welcome to the forum, we are very happy to have you on board. :) You'll find lots of advice and support and encouragement here. :D

Before coming here I would last no longer than 4 or 5 weeks and then go back to my old ways. However, since starting out here I have doubled that - I start week 8 tomorrow!! I have no intentions of dropping my healthy eating plan either. ;) You can do this too! I'm still surprised with myself but in a very good way!! :D You can be too!

I am sorry you left the doctor feeling so down. I hope they were supportive and offered some practical advice. 4 stone is a big number to have in your head and very overwhelming. Think about the first 7 lbs and focus on that.

STOP!!!! That girl is still there she just got a little lost. For me life events took hold of me and I found myself eating far too much of the wrong foods it was as if I was punishing myself but what for I don't know. All I know was how unhappy and depressed I was.

Like yourself I found this forum simply by accident but it has been my saviour. I need to loose at least 5 stone and May 19th I started the 12 week plan and am now doing it again since then upto last week I have lost 2stone 3lb and it hasn't been hard. The plan re-educates you into making good food choices. I would also get a fitness tracker I have a fit bit but there are so many others, I log my water intake I never realised I drank too little water, I also log daily calories and steps etc.

If you want to change your weight you are in control and you can do it this is the only way I have managed to loose weight over a longer period of time it costs nothing and you speak to so many lovely people who can help you along the way.

Check your BMI using the checker and see how many calories you can have, aim for the lower end this is what I do then if I have misjudged some calories I know I am covered and still within my range. Start tomorrow most people join the Monday weigh in every week but I do every 2 weeks it's upto you really. Don't delay pop back on here tomorrow night and report how you have got on together we can do this by supporting each other.

Best wishes Bev
