Inspiration for Exercise and Weight Loss

I am a 67 year old wife, mother of 3 and grandmother of 6. I am about 4.5 stone overweight and am now having difficulty with general fitness. I am still working 15 hours a week at a local health centre. If I get down on the floor I can't get up without something to pull myself up on. I occasional go to an aqua class and keep making appointments at the gym and cancelling at the last minute, I have an appointment on Tuesday and I need to go this time!

Hi Lundy67,

Welcome to the Weight Loss NHS forum. I hope you'll enjoy being part of this community. It's a friendly and supportive place. Maybe read our Welcome Newbie post, in the Pinned posts area - and please join in with anything you like the look of.

Great that you do the occasional Aqua class, but sorry to hear you haven't made it to the gym yet, despite wanting to go. Good luck with making it on Tuesday. Let us know how you get on. I hope you'll enjoy it.

Our Monday group weigh-in is really supportive too, so do join us for that, if you'd like to. See the Events section for details.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Lowcal :-)

Hi Welcome. *I too have had 3 children and am a grandmother of 5 ages from 29 down to 21. I am a bit older than you, so hopefully you can gain a bit of encouragement from that as I am down to my original goal

Hi Lundy67 :)

Welcome to the forum, I hope you'll like it here and it helps you to lose weight, get fit and healthy! :D

This may have been suggested already but have you tried swimming? I love this sport, it takes my weight, is easy on my joints and I have loads of fun so it doesn't seem like I'm exercising.

All the best for you and good luck! :)

Hello Lundy67 , I agree with Hidden that swimming would be a good start. You could just do a few lengths to begin with, maybe before or after an aqua class. The best thing to do for your health though is to lose weight, exercise is only a fairly small part of that, more important is what you eat and drink and plenty of info on this site to help you, calorie allowances, recipes, lots of friendly support too. Good luck!

Hi and welcome Lundy :)

I know exactly what you mean about not being able to get up off the floor, because I used to be the same. I found walking and an exercise bike really helped me to rebuild my fitness levels. Take it nice and easy to start with and gradually increase distance and intensity. You'll be amazed how quickly you improve :)

Take a look at the Pinned Posts section, to the right of your screen (bottom, if you're using a mobile) and have a look at the Welcome Newbies thread.

Look at the Topics section beneath that, for posts that could answer any questions you may have.

Consider joining any, or all, of our challenges, as they're fun and motivating.

Join us for the monday group weigh-in. If you follow Zest and myself, you'll be notified when we post the threads. However, the latest thread can always be found in the events section, to the right of the home page.

Be active on the forum, as that's where we exchange ideas and get our daily dose of motivation and inspiration :)

Wishing you all the very best :)
