Heavier than ever!

Well this time three years ago I wrote my first post panicking that my 50th birthday was looming and needed to lose weight. Needless to say I'm still as heavy if not heavier! In these three years have lost/gained several times. The feeling was amazing when I'd lost the weight I felt healthier and started to feel confident in my body again. ....so why oh why can't I get back into this frame of mind again? ? I'm so mad and unhappy that I've let this happen. I've started so many times and given up after a few days. 1st of September today so I'm going to do my best to try and shift this 5 stone I'm carrying. Exercise is limited at the moment due to a very painful trapped nerve in my neck. I haven't been on this forum for a while but looking through the posts there are some amazing words of advice and support which I'm hoping will keep me on track once again x

Hiya Dawn, welcome back. I can relate to a lot of what you say. I too have lost a shed load of weight twice before. In fact over 10 stone both times. I felt great but complacency set in and I stopped counting my calories, I stopped going to my slimming class and I slipped back to my old ways. I found this forum around 13 weeks ago and I made a decision to start again. I had started and stopped, changed diets, made excuses for the 6 months leading up to that point so I can't really explain what made the difference this time. I'm almost at 50 and my daughter is getting married next year. I don't want to embarrass her on her big day by being the size I am so I simply had to do something. As well as that I felt terrible. I had sore joints was breathless all the time and got very tearful for no reason. There has to be more to life than this right. I found this forum and my new life has well and truly started. I printed off the 12 week plan, calculated my calories and stuck to it. The most important thing for me has been being honest with myself. If I cheat then it's me who is losing out so there's no point in doing that. I have done a load of walking but in your painful condition you will still lose weight just counting your calories until your trapped nerve is better. When I started I was in the 31 stone range and 13 weeks on I am in the high 27 stones so its a really solid start. I have at least 12 stone still to lose but I'm not looking that far ahead. You will have some difficult times but we are all here to help and support you.

You can absolutely do this. You will lose the weight. You've done it before and you can do it again. No time like the present. Good luck to you and let us know how you're getting on.

Hi Dawn2501,

Welcome back to the forum. I'm not sure if it is the same as it was when you were last here, but if you've not seen the Welcome Newbie post, it's worth a read - and it's in the Pinned posts area.

Sorry to hear that you've got a painful trapped nerve in your neck, and I hope you are able to cope reasonably ok with that. It must be really challenging sometimes.

Do join our Monday group weigh-in sessions if you fancy the idea of that, it's a friendly and supportive group.

Wishing you a great week ahead.

Lowcal :-)

Hi dawn 2501 I to have been down that road where you lose weight put it back on several times last year I had lost 4/5 stone and put it back on when I bought new clothes i stood looking in the mirror thinking is that really me!! But I believe it's a mental attitude strong positive mind will be a healthy one and you will achieve .This site is amazing knowing everyone is here to help and support /encourage you .I'm so focused at the moment and only week 2 day 3 when im like this weight comes quite easy at first I count all my calories haven't started my excerise work yet doing a little extra walking but will start excerise probably next week when school starts back. I wrighed in at 17st 3lb heart broken to say the least.1st week lost 8lb But this time when I have a bad day I'm coming on here to confess as I know the answers (you can have a bad day just pick yourself up for the next day )and when you hearing that from lovely people who understand on this site not people who will humour you family are great but if they never struggled with weight I don't thing they understand as well, well my family don't! I haven't told them I'm on healthy eating well my husband and children do but I think they are thinking again! But no saying anything lol but this Web site is my secret log on most nights so you can do it positive mind will be noticeable and after a few weeks you will start feeling so much better and once you start to lose pounds you will be determined I am this time enough is enough I'm doing this for life now no more yoyoing! Good luck remember stay focused if having a bad come on here and we will all change that. Lizzy70 x

Hello I know how you are feeling as I'm the same. Let's do this together. Chin up. You have done this before so I know you can do it again. Keep thinking how good you felt when u lost the weight. You have given me the idea to remember this feeling and I'm going to try and think about this. As I remember a few years ago when I lost weight I felt so confident and felt nice in new clothes. I really want to feel like that again. Good luck amanda

Hi Dawn.

You are not alone!!! I successfully lost 3 stones 4 years ago with Slimming World and put it all back on ( and a bit more!) when I took my foot off the pedal and became complacent. My more recent sensible head told me that people losing 7+ pounds a week ( let alone £5 a week😳) then gaining 4 in a weekend was clearly not the way forward!!!

I decided to accept my fate of being fat but also decided that I would at least try to be more fit. I decided to start the C25k ( at almost 17 stone might I add!). I started in secret and didn't see any great weight loss but there was a definite change in shape and I could feel i was getting fitter. I'm now completing week 8 - I can run for 28 mins ☺️

Something clicked in my head and I decided to eat better too, when you feel better in yourself it just makes sense!!

I then found this amazing forum ( via amazing the C25k forum). I worked out my calorie allowance using the NHS tracker and have stayed within it for almost 3 weeks. I lost 5 pounds in the first 2 weeks and am on target for half a stone in 3 weeks. My calorie allowance is approx between 1800 and 2200 calories a day. It's loads!! I have never once felt hungry and if I overindulge one day, I compensate on the others. If I know I've got something coming up ( meals out etc), I subtract and amount of 'treat' calories from my weekly allowance - so it might mean I only have 1500 calories a day instead, but it's enough!!!

Success breeds success, I am doing more, eating better and feeling positive. I am no longer content with being fit and fat, I want to at least be fit and less fat!!! I am also content with a slower loss, no magic, just being sensible!

I want to lose at least 4 more stones, to be 12 stone something for the first time in a long time. I truly believe I can do it this time, and if I can, you can too!!!

Ask for help, support, rant, moan and celebrate on this forum. Everyone understands, everyone has been there and everyone cares and wants to help 😘😘😘

Good luck xxx
