Just reading about the 12 week plan and I'm ready to start tommmow! Feeling nervous as I find it difficult to stick to diets however enough is enough. I need to lose 3 stone 3lb to be a healthy weight.

Amy ideas for someone who doesn't eat meat?

Heya, i find the 12 week plan much easier than 'going on a diet', as diets are temporary and tortuous. Changing your lifestyle is actually quite fun i find, especially when you get good results!

Im not veggie but i try to eat as much veggie food as i can. Some tips ive found useful are-

-dont use cheese as your main protein source, just use it in small amounts for flavour. Try to eat more feta and less cheddar, as its lower cal per 100g.

-eggs eggs eggs! Work them in when you can. Great source of protein for not many cals. Free range Duck eggs are even nicer.

-beans beans beans! Make your own hummus and butterbean dip for snacks, dip in celery and carrot sticks. Chickpea and aubergine tagine is tasty, filling and low in cals, but dont put too much honey or dried fruit in.

-mushrooms- i had mini portobello mushrooms fried in a little butter, with a fried egg for brekkie just now- 200 calories only and i am full.

-dont be afraid of healthy fat like in avos and nuts. Fat is satiating, and good for you in small amounts.

-quorn is great too, i love quorn and kidney bean chilli, with a sprinkle mature cheddar, wrapped in a romaine lettuce leaf.

-protein rich soups like lentil or bean are super useful, and freeze well in portions. Here is a good one:

You probably know all this stuff but hopefully something was helpful!

Wishing you lots of success on your weight loss journey!

Hi and welcome Jan :)

I certainly can't add to albinohedgehog 's fantastic reply :)

Take a look at the Pinned Posts section, to the right of your screen (bottom, if you're using a mobile) and have a look at the Welcome Newbies thread, it has a link to the NHS 12 week plan, which is a guide to healthy living, rather that a specific diet plan.

There are probably some vegetarian options in the recipe collection too.

Consider joining any, or all, of our challenges, as they're fun and motivating.

Join us for the monday group weigh-in. If you follow Zest , you'll be notified when she posts the thread. However, the latest thread can always be found in the events section, to the right of the home page.

Be active on the forum, as that's where we exchange ideas and get our daily dose of motivation and inspiration :)

Wishing you all the very best :)
