Hi I am a 64 year retired lady with a weight problem. My BMW tells me I am obese and need to lose 3 stone. I do exercise, go to at least 4 classes a week and swim twice a week. I am in my second week, I lost 1 lb in my first. Would appreciate any tips to help me on my journey.

Hi Ansell52

Welcome to the weight loss forum.

Take a look at the Welcome Newbies post in the Pinned post section on the right or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.

Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.

Take your measurements at the start along with a photo so you can see the changes and it is motivating on the days when the scales don't move.

We have daily weigh-ins so why not come and join us. You will find the weigh-ins in the Events section on the Home page on the right. Just click on the post and state your starting weight, any loss/gain or maintain.

To get the best from the forum be active, share experience, tips and ideas. read some of the posts they are very inspiring.

Have a good first week.

Rose

I hate exercise, although I love walking my dog everyday, but I don't count that, and I do Pilates to keep my back strong after rupturing two discs last year. In my own experience, only calorie counting helps me lose weight. Eat less, weigh less, simple really. I use MyFitnessPal to help me monitor what I eat and help,me plan my meals so i stay under 1500 cal per day. Hope that helps - good luck anyway.

Switch to a Mercedes. The only complaint mine makes to me is when I haven't put on my seatbelt.

Hi Ansell52, we could have been twins! I am 64 (not for long anymore) and have to lose 20Kg (3 stone ). You are doing great with the exercise, but I found that calorie counting helps me to really see how big a portion I do eat. I always thought I know portion sizes until I started calorie counting and found that I had overeaten by a lot!!! No wonder I was gaining weight. I also joined the Tuesday Trimmers for my weekly weigh-in as that just gives me that little encouragement to not be naughty too often.

I wish you good luck and success on your trip on the weight downhill

Thank you Mammou. I have done WW and SW with great success but never reached my target weight. I am finding the calorie counting very interesting gosh was I over eating even when it was something healthy!!! I feel if I can do this on my own I will keep the weight off. Good luck to you too.

Keep going and you will get there! Have confidence in yourself. Good luck!😀😄

Surely BMW infotainment systems aren't that advanced or insulting. If they are, it's time to change to a vehicle with three pronged star on its bonnet or four rings in its grillle.

Joking aside, simply continue to enjoy regular exercise, while maintaining a calorie deficit from maximum allowance, in addition to reducing consumption of refined carbohydrate.

A weekly loss of 1-2lbs, through calorie reduction and exercise, is both healthy and sustainable, so don't feel as though you're failing by not losing more.

MrNiceGuy and DoctorDoctor you have brought tears to my eyes, so funny!

Hi Ansell52 , you sound as though you have the exercise side of things all planned out, with that and your calorie counting and making healthy choices the weight will soon start dropping away. 1-2 pound a week is ideal, you're more likely to keep it off. Your BMI will drop with your weight. Good luck, keep posting and let us know how you get on.
