Hi I am ew to this site I only started Sunday I have 2 stone to loose

I have tried many diets before well all of them Really lol and nothing really worked , so I decided to take the ball by the horns and do this one ,

I have not cheated at all and I have stuck to my calories and I know I have lost weight how much I don't know yet as I don't want to weigh myself till Sunday ,I must say I haven't been hungry which surprised me and if I need to nibble I eat berries , as long as they are in my allowance .

I think if you stick to the allowance you will loose ,people are very helpful on this site , I'm sure you can do it

Good luck with it x

Hi Bigtomthumb,

Welcome. I have a lot more to lose than you so you can definitely do this. For me the best way to approach my weight loss is that it's not a diet. For so many years I've made the wrong choices when it came to food. I've done every diet under the sun and yes a couple of them have been successful but then I got complacent. I've done so well so it won't matter if I put a little bit back on. Before I knew it I'd undone all my good work and put it all back on again. The worst one was 11 stone off and 11 stone + back on. When I look back on it now and as I embark on that journey again I can see where I went wrong. I felt as if I was depriving myself, that that way of eating was only for one purpose, to lose weight, and once I'd lost it I could go back to 'normal eating'. Hmmm, not a good approach. So what makes this time different. Well the motivation for me has never been an issue. Once I make up my mind to do something I do it. I was a Head Chef a number of years ago so I can dabble with ingredients to maximise flavours and create good healthy meals. I plan my meals a week in advance and I only buy in what I need. I make sure that I have plenty of fruit and veg and fresh herbs. I don't do ready meals but I don't cook every night. If I'm having spag bol on Monday then I make the leftover Bolognese into chilli for the Tuesday. I count my calories strictly, I have my daily allocation and I use the Myfitnesspal app to log everything. I drink loads of water. Never did this before, unless it had been fermented with hops. I'm eating healthily and I've cut out junk food all together.

The worst thing you can do is approach this as a diet. It needs to be a change of life. Don't deprive yourself, just count it in your calories, You absolutely can do this. Read the newbie post which is pinned to the home page, Use the BMI calculator to let you know how many calories you should be having and give it a go. Everyone I have met on here is supportive. They have all experienced exactly the same battles with food as you and me and they are supportive and inspirational. What have you got to lose, other than weight, Good luck to you.

Thank you I'm trying my problem is making food interesting and knowing what herbs and spices I can put in what and then trying to work out the calories .

My goodness you done amazing to loose 11 stone shame that you put it all back on but by the sounds of it you certainly know what your doing so it won't be a problem for you especially as you are a chef and with your determination it's a walk in the park for you .

Good luck and keep in touch ,

Any cooking tips always appreciated x

Hi Pamed,

Recipes are trial and error but you can find some lovely low calorie recipes online. Last night I made my own meatballs from 5% fat mince. Nothing fancy, just the mince with salt and pepper added, squidged together for a few minutes then rolled into balls. Had 6 with pasta and a homemade tomato sauce. The sauce is dead easy. A tin of chopped tomatoes, half a can of water, 1 stock cube, 1 medium onion, 3 cloves of garlic and half a teaspoon of sugar. You could add grated carrot or chopped peppers or chilli if you wanted. Simmered it for 15 minutes and added some fresh roughly chopped basil. Added the meatballs and cooked pasta then finished with a little parmesan. It was so good and it made enough sauce for tonight's dinner too. Looking forward to it already. There is a post on this forum that has some great recipes too.

Start by losing ONE Kg or lb, and then the next - small steps and you will get there if you keep on going. First day - clear out the cupboards of tempting treats, make a shopping list of alternatives for those occasional snacky moments. Get an online calorie counting diary (or a notepad if preferred) and start to log everything that goes in your mouth - food, drinks, even little bits of cheese when you are cooking and then the weight will start to go. Second day - plan how and when you can add extra activity into your daily routine - use more stairs, walk outside more, cycle for pleasure - book a badminton game, go for a swim. Life is for living!
