Hello all. I wish to lose 4 stone and thought I would pop in here to help make it happen. I really need support and accountability.

I love chatting but I don't know anyone or anything here yet so I'll be brief right now. I send this in hope of some replies and I send you all good wishes .

Hi Bobette22I am returning having lost 3 stone 4 years ago and am now restarting. I have found this group so valuable and supportive. I have realised it is a slow steady loss for me and learning new ways of managing situations which are food orientated. I became complacent and life got stressful and I stopped being aware of what I ate. This time I am enjoying the feeling of looking forward to what I eat rather than just eating if that makes sense. I wish you well on your adventure and you will find your own way don’t be discouraged. I use an app called my scale which breaks the loss down to 10 equal chunks seems more manageable then. Good luck.

Congratulations on your incredible achievement! I will check out that app, too. Many thanks.

Good morning babette22 and welcome to our fabulous weight loss group where everyone either is or has been in the same boat. Help and encouragement is provided freely and by helping others we maintain our own focus and learn new tips that might aid our own journeys along the way. Weather we have a stone to lose of ten stone, the courage to start and the commitment to continue are exactly the same. I like you have a large amount to lose, but find it better not to focus on any big number. I ask myself, would I be happy if next month I could be lighter than I am right now Wouldn’t it be great if I could get back into those trouser that I bought a year ago and have never fitted. And wow would I like to get down from a 3XL to a 2XL as so many more shops would have clothes that I could consider.

From a health perspective, wouldn’t it be nice to walk up that hill or climb those stairs without feeling like I’d just run a marathon, and wouldn’t it be great to run a marathon one day or take on an epic challenge or even perform something that is fun that my weight prevents me from doing right now.

If I have just one or two tips for you right now, it is sets your sights for the short term and keep re-evaluating those targets. Be happy with each and every loss you have however small and be satisfied. Accept periods of staying the same and occasional blips as a normal part of the journey and pat your self on the back frequently for what you have already achieved. What you have achieved already is making a start.

Finally don’t be scared as I was for too long of scales. They are only a tool to help you on your journey and just one tool not the only one. Find a diet that works for you and be prepared to change and try other things until you settle on something that for you can be permanently adopted as a change in lifestyle as weight loss for us all needs to be sustainable or what’s the point of starting. Good luck on your wonderful journey and I look forward to sharing it with you👍. X

Hi , welcome to the forum. I think the turning point for me was when I realised that your body lays down fat to store toxins and thus protect the organs from harm. Once I realised this the mantra really is “keep it simple”. If you reduce toxicity by reducing the amount of “rubbish” you eat then the fat isn’t needed any more and melts away. My starting advise would be drink lots of filtered water and eat more fruit and veg. Cut processed food out gradually and try and cook from scratch. I don’t even ever think about my weight any more and just concentrate on health and have lost 3 stone so easily. Try and relax as stress is a toxin and just enjoy the journey. Good luck 🙂

Hi and welcome . I have had amazing support not only in feedback / advise but with other peoples triumphs and struggles . Makes me feel I am not on my own . You have set yourself a challenge so don't be disheartened if some weeks you seem to be at a standstill. With me it is now maintaining as I get older . Xmas was a nightmare as I was given bottles of wine . I shared all the chocolate out but am still slowly eating some of the cheese I know I shouldn't touch . I didn't sway with extremes but managed to put on 4kg . Slowly trying to get rid of it but isn't easy . Let us know how you get on .

Check out our DrinkLess Club, for members who want to manage what and when they drink. Just follow the link that Gizmocat gave you to the Pinned Posts :)

Actually I drink fairly little compared to most people, but I understand the 'calling', though it is nowhere near as strong as my calling to eat sugar, though wine is sugar I know, it's all part of the same thing. I swear chocolate calls to me in the house! 'Eat me, you know you want me...' lol

Well thank you. What a great start for me!

babette22 profile image

I think what I am going to do is to cut out as much junk food from my diet as I can and lower my sugar (also junk of sorts) as much as possible, and from then on, just count calories. It seems to be tried and tested! I think I more or less know roughly what to do, it's just doing it, lol. I have a terrible sweet tooth. It's addiction really.

That’s how I started. I cut out crisps, sweets, biscuits and chocolate. I was addicted to chocolate so going cold turkey on that and not having it in the house helped me break the habit.

Good luck and I’m sure you can do this,

i just worked out that I want to lose exactly 50 pounds. Divide that into 10 equal parts of 5 pounds at a time. Now 5 pounds cannot be that impossible to lose can it?

I’ve done mine in 7lb mini goal. I get a new badge next to my name for every one I hit 😀

What a great idea! 5 lbs sounds a sensible amount to aim for, then on to the next 5!Good luck!

Hello bobette and welcome to the site. I can only tell you my approach to losing weight. I use a small plate for every meal, (about 6 inches across) which automatically limits the amount to be eaten. Eating slowly and chewing well helps too. I eat whatever I wish to - everything within reason, but the portions are small. Hope this helps . Good luck and warm best wishes.

Lovely to here from you and thank you for supporting others with your advice.

Are you just visiting here today or are you still on your weight loss journey and would like to get more actively involved in our events?

If you are already at your goal, maybe maintenance club would be a good place for you: healthunlocked.com/weight-l...

We would love to hear from you!

Hello N-o-r-d-i. Thank you for contacting me. I replied about losing weight because it seems sad to me that people who go on an "Organised diet" do so with anxiety and yo-yoing weight gain and loss. It seems to me the simplest solutions are best in all things, and eating less, using a smaller dish is a plan which does not backfire on you unless you discontinue it. It is not anxiety making, or disappointing, and it works. I will be 90 yrs old in May , and as well as other health problems I have psoriatic arthritis and osteoarthritis plus spondylosis so it helps me to carry around as little weight as necessary. ( I must add though, that I don't use an egg cup for my chocolate addiction!!!) I weigh myself every Sunday and make a note of it on my calendar. Warm wishes to all the weight warriors. 🍎
