Trying to lose the weight before surgery.

BlackLabMummy2016 profile image

Hello everyone,

I am new to the site but wanted to ask a quick question.

Today I had a clinic appointment for a gynaecology operation, but was told by the consultant that I need to lose at least 4 stone before they would even attempt it.

According to their scales I am 15st, yet when my GP weighed me a few weeks ago I was just under 13st. My general eating habits have improved, and I am eating less than I was before.

Plus I am getting more exercise, despite having fibromyalgia, and I am pushing my limits more even if it means I am sore for days afterwards.

Where am I going wrong? Surely I can't gain 2st from doing what my GP surgery health advisor suggested?

I have approx 8 weeks until I see a different consultant, but I am worried he will say the same as the first.

If you go back to your doctor's you can get a note giving you 12 weeks free at weightwatchers. I lost 4st in 11 months. You get loads of help and great support and tips if you stay for the meetings. Also on Facebook you get loads of support if you are struggling

Hello BlackLabMummy2016

You have my sympathy 😕 I always seem to weigh more when it's being done by a doctor!! And it does seem unfair for their scales to weigh heavy too 😕 But if you are seen to be trying to lose weight that will count in your favour 😊 Have a look at the newbies post, sign up to the free NHS12 week plan, and look up your personal BMR which will give you a target calorie range to aim for, often more than you might expect. Also read some of the inspiring stories on here, lots of people can and do lose weight and keep it off 😊

Good luck with the eating and the hospital 😊 I am also waiting (impatiently) for gynae appointment for an abdominal mass and most likely a hysterectomy, not a happy thought, But thankfully tests rule out anything sinister 😊

Best wishes

Good Morning, Welcome to the forum.

It sounds like there may be something wrong with their scales. I would suggest you buy some yourself, mine are cheap digital ones from tesco about£15 which also do body fat percentage. That way you can track your weight on the same scales, and join our monday weigh ins on the forum :) I also have a weigh in at work club and find i'm always 5lbs heavier on these scales.

I would also have a look at the nhs 12 week program, if you follow this and fill in the sheets you can take them along to your next meeting and they may be able to give you some advice.

If you weigh and track everything you put in your mouth for the next few weeks, it may give you some clues as to where you are going wrong (if you are, you may not be). I found out i was putting 100's of calories of butter on each slice of toast, so was having half my calorie allowance for breakfast every morning!!!

Good Luck, you can do it, stay positive and have a look through some of the posts on here, we are all after the same aim so we can help each other :)

Thanks everyone. I downloaded the fitbit app last night to log my calorie intake and my exercise. I do get out and about with my lab puppy and now kids have broke up for summer we will be going out more. So far this morning I have had 345 calories, and burnt 535 calories just doing some light housework.

I am a bit top heavy, so I joked with my mate last night that if the took a breast off, that would be at least half a stone. 😂 😂

Hi Blacklabmum I have had the you too big for the op routine But have got over it by taking a pill called alli comes in a little pot with 84 caps in it 3 a day so they last a while problem is they are 40 quid a time but I lost 2 stone over 7 weeks And then went back for my opp FINALLY got it now I have less pain and getting out more and light exercise 💪

Hi @hackettsparks.

Thanks for the reply.

I used KLB6 and Raspberry Ketone supplements from Holland and Barrett for ages but it seems that I have reached point where no weight wants to come off, but it either stays the same or increases.

OK I see what you are saying but Alli caps Contain orlistat which strips fat from the food you have eaten and stops you from absorbing it it used to be called xenicol and you could get it on prescription, if the products you tried left you with visible oil then don't bother but if they were not ,, I know you can get other products which claim to do this but do it in different ways ☺ I wish you the best of luck loosing the weight whatever way you should chose to do it 😉

in reply to

I also recommend Alli ( Orlilstat), they are the only diet pill approved by the NHS, and they do work. Read up on the side affects first, they can be unpleasent if you dont alter your diet too!!

in reply to

Lloyd's chemist are doing them on offer at 19 quid for 84 caps my doctor wouldn't prescribe them as they were not on the list for Reading Apparently ,,mind you they are a useles bunch at my surgery,,, but it have lost 3 stone with this stuff now less pain so more aerobic exercise now without Alli , side effects are only while you take it .. for me it was a god send

Wow how many hours housework was that? I don't burn that much on at least a 5 mile walk!! I had to lose over 2 to 3 stone for IVF five years ago and managed it in a couple of months from running every night and watching what I ate. But having said that I can't seem to shift it these days!! Seem to yo yo losing about half a stone then putting it back on :( Good luck I'm sure you can do it... try logging all your food and I'm sure being active with the kids will help.

Yesterday I went to a family fun event and the guys from Well-being were there running a stall where the kids used exercise bikes to power a blender to make their own smoothie.

They also has a health MOT so I gave it a go.

My weight was 92kgs, but it said 34.4kgs was water, so I am thinking I may need to go on water tablets like my mum and nan were on once they just their mid thirties.

Have an appointment with the health advisor based at my GP surgery on Thursday so will take the slip from the machine with me.

Well I went and bought some scales today endorsed by weight watchers and I weighed myself after my bath and weigh 14st 12lb. I also started some of the XLS Medical Max Strength capsules today, but will get some of the others later in the week.
