Hi, my name is Amanda. I currently weigh 15 stone 11 pounds. I am 5 foot 10 though so my BMI is 31.7. I'm 44 and mother to 16 year old twins. Ultimately I want to lose 4 stone, but I'm initially going to try to lose 11 pounds in time for my mothers 70th birthday in mid July. I am a chocoholic so any tips for how to get my chocolate fix without the calories would be appreciated.

good luck Amanda ,stick with this group for inspirational motivational support .😃

We are very similar in stats. I'm 5ft 11, age 44 and weigh 15 7. I don't have twins though. I have a daughter who's 14 months old. Would you be interested in doing a challenge? They're good fun and perfect for motivation.

😃😃😃

That sounds like a good idea. What do you suggest as a challenge?

Hi Mannylou71,

Welcome to the Weight Loss NHS community forum.  I hope you'll enjoy being part of this great community.  It's good that you've got some long term goals and also some mini goals too.  You may find our Welcome Newbie post helpful:

healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

The Challenges that Hidden  mentioned are in the top right-hand-side of the homepage - in the Pinned Posts area.  Have a look and see if there's anything there you fancy joining in with.  There's also a Recipe post there too, which I think is worth a look too.

Also, we have a Monday group weigh-in - so if you fancy joining in with that, you would be very welcome.  The latest post is always in the Events section (below the Pinned Posts).

Have a great week.

Regarding chocolate, there are numerous ways you could tackle it - personally I restrict myself to one really good quality piece of darker chocolate per day, after my evening meal (unless I get unexpected chocolate gifts for my Birthday - which happened this week, and I ended up over-indulging.  But generally I am quite good at just having the one piece and finding that is sufficient).  But I think it's important to make sure the meals you have a sustaining and full of nutrients to ensure you don't end up 'craving' anything and therefore overeating.  Pre-planning is really helpful.

I'd recommend the NHS 12 week plan, which is a great structure.

Good luck, and have a great week.

Lowcal :-)

Thank you.

Some people find those Options drinks help with chocolate craving - they are 44 calories or less per portion and you can buy them in 1 portion sachets.  They come in a variety of flavours.

I tend to find that it is not really the chocolate I am addicted to, it is more the fat/sugar hit - the proof is in the fact that I don't like very dark chocolate and can happily ignore my husband's stash, whilst things like Mars bars and Toblerones, etc I couldn't leave alone.  I have found that after a good 2 weeks of no sugar the craving for it goes away, and as I am doing a Low Carb High Fat diet the urge for fatty substances is covered.

Good luck, Mannylou71.  You'll find your way.
