Does anyone have any ideas the calories in your average Indian meal or where I could look to check for myself. I'm going to have boiled rice and chicken dopiaza. I'm out tomorrow evening and want to do my best.   Thanks very much

My Rosemary Conley A-Z of fat & calories says the average chicken dopiaza portion is 525 calories and a rounded tbsp of boiled rice is 40 calories. You could try looking on my fitness pal perhaps? I don't use the app at the moment but have in the past and it's very good. Maybe that's some help. Hope you enjoy your meal :-)

Thankyou Fab-jem

I've saved 900 calories , so should be well within that.

Having my poridge, yog and fruit for breakfast then a Subway Salad for lunch.

That sounds like my kind of day's meals except all cooked at home lol!

Hi Janecad  . I second what Hidden  has said, I use MyFitnessPal to record all my daily calories (and activities). It's very good and does have Indian meals including the one you plan to have, with their calorie and nutritional information. I also use the NHS one which is under NHS Choices - is a free NHS weight loss guide calorie counter. I am adding the link below if you want to check it out. 😃

Enjoy your meal out. 😄

Presume you've had your lovely meal out.  The problem with Indian restaurants is they all cook it differently and have different sized portions, so there isn't a standard.  I usually go for something tandoori, like chicken, as they take the skin off, but if you like tandoori fish or prawns, that would be even less kcal.  I then have it with a chapati as the lowest kcal option, about 80-100kcal, which is much less than a naan or rice.  I usually order a vegetable side dish and have just a couple of spoons of that on my plate.  I have learned that I don't have to eat all of every dish I've ordered.  A bit of a light bulb moment for me!  If you want a starter, consider a poppadum with some raita and maybe some chutney.  I count it as 30kcal a teaspoon.  I find that you can estimate the size of the portions you have had and try googling for the kcal, lots of options will come up.  I tend to go for the middle of the range, unless I know that there was an excess of oil or ghee on any dish.

Thanks all

 Meal went well.

Enjoyed what I had and didn't feel guilty, and am back on track this morning.

1 poppadom with onion salad and 2tsp mint sauce then chicken dopiaza with plain boiled rice. Didn't feel as though I over ate and could move from the table without saying that I wish I hadn't all that. I'm using the fitness pal every day but only just finding my way around it all.

Thanks for the on going support everyone, it really does make a difference
