Hi SandraMill31,

Welcome to the forum, and I hope you'll enjoy being part of this community. I'd like to give you the link to our Welcome Newbie post - compiled by Moreless (who is a lovely forum member):

Maybe see you in the Monday group weigh-in sessions, if the idea of a group weigh-in appeals to you.

Have a great week, and wishing you success with your goals. I would recommend the NHS 12 week plan, and many of us are following that plan here. You can find a link to it in the Newbie pack, but also via the icon above (entitled Weight Loss NHS).

Hopefully you can get back to exercising as and when you feel ready, in relation to your sciatica. Wishing you well, and hope to see you around and about in the forum.

Thanks Lowcal. Yeah group weigh in sounds good to me. Ive already printed the 12 week plan and ive just read the 1st week. I need to get weight off as it may help my back.

I will watch out for the group weigh in on Monday and join in

Great! It will be lovely to have you join us in the Monday group weigh-in sessions. You can always access the latest thread via the 'Events' section (see right-hand-side of homepage), and the link to the Monday group weigh-in session is there - alternatively you could click 'follow' and my name and you'd be automatically notified of when the sessions are posted - there is one in the morning and one at midday, but people can join in either one - we only split the sessions to try to allow the site to cope with the volume of traffic - the group is quite large. But the tech department are helping us to iron out any glitches, so hopefully it will be smoother as these are fixed.

Look forward to seeing you in the weigh-ins and also in the forum generally.

Hi & welcome.

If you can manage a bit of walking this will help and get you more mobile. You don't need to go crazy with exercise. 20 minutes walking everyday will make a huge difference.

I suffer from chronic back pain and whilst it was a struggle to begin with the walking (and losing weight) has really helped :)

Good luck :)

Im walking very slowly at the moment. Someone told me that swimming really helps with chronic back pain. Thanks for the advice xxx

No worries. It is interesting to note that distance for distance walking burns the same calories as running. This means walking is one of the best exercises you can do and low impact :)

Swimming is great especially for upper body and I think it does help with back pain.

Hope you are pain free soon :) x

Health problems (arthritis) Is my main motivator for losing weight. I started out doing 5-10 minutes couple of times a day, as this was all I could manage. exercise is possible, we just need to be a bit more creative!! And as the weight comes off your health will improve 😊 Good luck!
