Hi Sassie66 . You have made your first big step by deciding the need to change. Don’t keep looking back and there is certainly no need to feel ashamed or embarrassed ...you are not the only one. I am now 67 and have been overweight for at least half of that time. I suddenly had a lightbulb moment and decided that it was time I did something about it especially after a comment from my GP who said when you are feeling better we need to look at your weight. I decided there was no better time than then to make a start. My blood pressure and cholesterol were too high and I had other weight related problems with joint aches and a foot problem which needs surgery. I sat down, looked at the NHS 12 week plan and decided I would write down every calorie which went in my mouth. It has become a way of life , a new lifestyle not a diet . I started on 20th Nov 2017 and am now 4 stone 1lb lighter so it is definitely worth it. Look in your cupboards and clear out all the high calorie foods you can manage without. Start by planning your meals for the week if possible and go and do a big shop to include all those foods. You may fall by the wayside occasionally but tomorrow is another day and you are allowed to have some blips along the way.
Small steps are best, I have never put weight on in the last year, have maintained at times but usually lost a pound or even half a pound at times but it all adds up. Good luck with the new you....you can do it just think of the health benefits you will gain. 😀😀😀😀😀Sue
Lovely, supportive reply Familytree, and very encouraging You've done a great job
Thank you for your lovely comment BridgeGirl. I just feel that after all the time I spent overweight that anyone can do it if they really want to. I look at new photos of myself taken recently and can’t believe it is the new mr. My daughter said she couldn’t believe it was me either after seeing me for most of her 38 years as a bigger mum. Best wishes Sue
You're welcome I'm the same age as you and I agree, we can make changes at any age and the rewards are huge. Your daughter must be very proud of you.
Hello Sassie66 and a very warm welcome to the Weight Loss Forum 😊
First of all, please stop beating yourself up, and there really is no need to be ambarrased or ashamed around here, we have all been where you are. What you need a little faith in yourself. You have taken that first, most important step 👏
So please take a look at the Welcome Newbie Post for advice about how the forum works and all the things we have on offer. healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... Please read it carefully as it has lots of important information.
Having enough to eat is vital, if you are following the NHS 12 Week plan then the 1400 calorie target suggested is a just generic amount, so check your calorie target on the BMI checker, it’s often higher than you think.
Also try to come onto the forum regularly, daily if you can, reading posts and replying to others. Being part of a community is proven to help weight loss. Why not join our daily chat thread ‘What’s Happening Today? And tell us all a little about your day.
Best wishes and have a great first week

Never feel bad about what HAS happened you can’t change that it’s done and dusted. What’s far more important is what you are aware of now and what you are hoping to do about it. Just remember by taking that all important first step you are moving away from what has been and forward to a better place. Good Luck and whatever you plan to do stick with it and you WILL see results I am sure.
All the very best 🙂
Thank you....i procastinate very well so i will be chuffed if i can make the changes i need....
You CAN tell yourself that you can and remember we are all rooting for you as well

Hi Sassie & welcome. 1st rule is you are amazing and dont forget it. I weighed 25 stone and knew I was an incredible woman and contributed to the wellbeing of others working in a hospital. Be kind to yourself always xx
Great decision Sassie66! I had no idea how much difference I was making to my life carting around excess baggage! You will feel so much better without the surplus.
Enjoy the journey.
