We've just done a school project homework about Artic foxes. Did you know they sometimes follow polar bears around so that they can eat whatever is left over from their feed (yes, normally those cute looking seals !) ?
Or that it's very tricky to try to recreate the Artic tundra landscape out of egg cartons, newspaper, some fake snow, PVA glue and a nine year old...
I love school projects! We've done several with our grandson. I just wish he was as enthusiastic about them as I am!
Have you ever tried making a periscope? That was quite tricky
Morning All
I'm so pleased that I have set myself a challenge of walking at least 7 km today, it will be so worth it to have a closer look at these really cute guys. I'll log my progress a little later. Have a good day everyone.
I'm watching from afar with a pair of very powerful binoculars! Rest day for me today. Enjoy!
Hi, would it be ok if I joined. If so I will post my steps later.
Thanks Karen
Karen, we'd be delighted to have you join us
Come back later with your steps and meet more of the gang.
Welcome aboard!
Thanks for letting me join, I've done 14,657 steps today.
Woohoo, WTG you!
I don't suppose you know what steps you did yesterday? If you can get a whole week in, you're in with a shot at appearing on the leader board
Yes,I did 7,023 yesterday
That's fantastic! That means you'll get a whole week under your belt
If you "follow" FizzyLiz, you'll be notified when she posts the new threads, there are normally 2 per day, to avoid congestion.

Nice picture!
I walked 9km today.
hi Lizzy forgot to post my steps from yesterday i did 1159 will let you know later what i've done today. what a lovely seal. take care Alan xx
10909 steps 8.3 km for me today.
Woohoo bd, you cracked the 10,000 steps!
At long last. I was out and very disappointed as my pedometer was not moving so I decided that I have to go for a longer walk and Moorless says out. Also the sun is shinning compared to yesterday with the winds and rain.
Hi FizzyLiz. I can't find a part two yet so posting here for this mornings efforts Tuesday 9th.
Run 5.2 km
X trained 3 km Total 5.2 km
I love the seals but prefer somewhere a bit warmer, I'm fed up with winter!!!
Sorry total 8.2 km!!
6oo steps climbing but don't know how to convert these to kms?
I think the best we can do, is just count the 600 steps, which converts to 0.45K and gives you a total of 8.65K's
Hi Suzymac,
As you encouraged me, I'm popping over to say 'Congratulations' on your kms for today. Also, for future reference, the way to convert steps to Kms is by dividing the number of steps by 10,000 and then multiplying by 7.5.
Therefore as Moreless said:
600 divided by 10,000 = 0.06 times by 7.5 = 0.45kms.
Fizzyliz told me the formula - and it's really useful.
Lowcal
Felt like the arctic here today but I managed a 3 hour walk with my amazing 79 years old chum. So 9 miles in all for me today.
Hi Lizzy, Moreless & Everyone,
What a cute seal.
I managed to get to the gym today, and here are my results:
Running (treadmill): 2 kms
Bike: 20 kms
Rowing machine: 4 kms
Walking (steps): 1 km
Total: 27 kms.
Wishing everyone a great evening.
Lowcal
Wow Lowcal you do it hard in the gym!
What do you do to keep you from getting bored, that's my biggest problem?
4km rowing, that for me is 20 minutes rowing, really hard work well done. I used to love rowing but my back doesn't like it anymore.
You are really impressive, take a bow! You have set the challenge for tomorrow!!!
Hi Suzymac,
Thanks very much for those encouraging words.
I also take 20 minutes to do 4km rowing. I have a rowing machine at home, so that part isn't done at the gym. I couldn't have done it in one go after the 20kms cycling - I was feeling really tired at the end of that, but I was pleased I did it.
I find I can keep my interest going in it more now - as I play around with the HIIT method (which I'm sure you know in terms of going extra fast and then slower and then extra fast etc etc), and I don't do all the kms on the treadmill in one go, but do an individual km and then do something else - I find it is much more interesting that way, and I don't get bored. Also, they have TVs to watch in the gym, so I read the subtitles on those as well, especially whilst cycling!
I don't think I'll be doing very many kms tomorrow, as I am going to be doing desk based work for most of the day. But hopefully I'll get to the gym again later in the week. I'm trying to get there 3 times a week, but I think I only managed it twice last week. Can't remember - it feels like a long time ago now!
Hope you are having a great week.
Lowcal
Hi Lowcal,
Yes I think you are right interval training more interesting, and apparently a better fat burner.
I'm at a cheap gym so no tv, quite unusual I know, but that's why difficult to think of other stuff beside 'the pain'.
I still think doing all of that in one day is really committed , once I walk out I'm not going back for the day, which would include a going on a rowing machine at home. You are very good at doing the self motivation I think. I'll try to live up to this too! Seriously Good Job!
Enjoy the rest day tomorrow, and have a good week.
Suzy
Ok 6.25 kms for me today š
Evening All, hope you have had a super day, Ive enjoyed it. my kms for today 9th Feb are 5.28. Have a lovely evening Everyone.
Hello Everyone, I posted a little while back but I got a message there seemed to be an error so just in case it didnt get through my kms for today 9th Feb 5.29.
You are a wonderful tour guide Lizzie. I am more of an urban rat than an artic fox but would nevertheless love to see one.
Because it rained yesterday I did not take my bike today so my total is 5.75km all good hard walking.
Aim love seals and puffins! This is a brilliant trip!! I did 5.62 Km today, I seem to walk more in airports, I just need to do that on a 'normal' day
Today same old, two dog walks and did 6.8kmš
š
Hi , sorry this is late , but managed the 1/2 mile swim yesterday and 2389 steps. Hectic evening with the grandchildren so didn't have time to eat much! Have now come down with streaming cold so no dancing or orchestra practise today just chilling out with tv and mending jobs , which have been waiting 6 weeks urghh! I need to bee on the steamer in the sun!!
Come and chill with us for a bit Lizzie, with a nice low calorie cocktail and a pair of binoculars
Are you saying no K's for today?
fitbit off all day and no specific exercise, gone off the fitbit as readings on wrist seem to be very high to those on waist clip. so as I haven't been out, only walking around house its probably only about 1000 steps that's a guess.
Oh dear, that'll teach me to set myself a daily km target I have to admit to a big fail. Total km today 6.2, so short of my 7 km goal. Tomorrow is another day so I'lI try to hit my 7km goal again. Have a good night everyone.
Not a fail at all mrsg, a huge resounding success! You were struggling to get out at all and here you are clocking up a wonderful 6.2K's! WTG you!
Thank you so much moreless, it's the support and encouragement from super stars on here like your good self that have boosted my motivation. I'm feeling so much better than I did on Monday morning and I'm determined to get out again tomorrow and try to hit my 7 km target. Enjoy your evening.
Great work everyone! I would love to see some Arctic foxes, they are adorable.
I managed 19.39 today!
Hi Lizzie and fellow travellers, our virtual tour sure beats real life with rather dull virus work domestic chores lack of funds etc... Still although it's cold I did manage a lunchtime dogwalk in the sunshine, lovely! No Arctic foxes but they are in my mind... As are polar bears š6.9km today For me x
What a mine of information you are. Love a spotted seal, I see great similarities except their blubber is more useful to them! Did 5.099 steps today so not as much as I had hoped but tomorrow is another day. Well done to everyone keeping on posting.
10km for today. I'm aiming for 100,000 steps this weeK.
I'm loving Spot the seal Liz and am a big fan of all arctic animals
I was lucky enough to get out for a walk today before the weather nosedived, even if the temperature felt Arctic My totals for today are:
Walking - 9.36
Cycling - 8.64
Total - 18K's
Moorless you always beat me with your km at least I am allowed with my weight! Fantastic! I have to learn from you! 9.36 walking! Fantastic! Keep going! Now you are a star! I am right you will soon be so skinny that no-one will recognize you!
Thanks bd
It was a day to feel skinny today, I took trousers and a top out of my wardrobe that haven't fitted me for years and they fit! Yaaay! I felt brill!
Reporting in for the day with 12.4 km. Brrrr really cold out there. I think I preferred the cocktails and beaches of a couple of weeks ago. But when you go round the world you get everything and I'd never seen an arctic fox before. Nice to be back on board though - have we got a gymn on board? Might be lazy tomorrow and not even venture off the cruiser. But I have to have some exercise to report!
Good evening. 2.2km for me today
Hoping to do a 10km this weekend but my knees are complaining due to all the city walking last week so I'll have to see how I feel.
Oh dear Sueper, poor you I can empathise, my knees are feeling a bit knackered too! Just do what you can do and don't make things worse, we need you for the rest of the trip
Thanks. Hard to know whether to rest or keep exercising. On the drive home (in the storms), I was in agony but stopping and walking around Asda really helped. What to do?
I think it was walking up and down a lot of steps that did it so I am avoiding too much of that at present. This is the first time my knees have really played up so I guess I should be thankful considering the abuse they have had!
My advice, for what it's worth, is to keep moving, but don't overdo it. Steps are a nightmare for me, so I try and avoid them
I've found that swapping exercise helps too, so for me alternating between walking, cycling and rowing really works. Too much of any one of them hurts!
Fingers crossed that in a couple of days, you'll feel a lot better
Good evening fellow travellers
Just got back in from a lovely swim.
Today I have clocked up the the following kms:-
Exercise bike - 10.1 km
Swimming - 1.25 km
Steps - 2439
Bedtime soon I'm tired and need to get up early to do my 10km minimum on the exercise bike got to shift at least 2lb this week!!
Night all
Nic š
Aww how cute. 25.28km for me Tuesday including 16 km on exercise bike.
Thanks for the thanks. Not sure I want my name in lights, just motivated to try and do more exercise whenever I can. 16k on exercise bike is easier than 16k walking and takes me a lot less time so I'm doing more on the bike and less walking. I also get better fat burn from the bike which is the name of the game.
Hi all,
Loving the wild life; artic foxes are the cutest, wonder if we'll see one do a snow dive but it's supposed to be quite hard to see it šŗ
My son loves to hear of the exotic places we visit and has today brought home "around the world in 80 days" from the school library for us to read together (he's 8) so u all are inspiring him too. First time I've seen him so enthusiastic to read a book; so thank u all š
Aww Ruth! How fantastic that our challenge has motivated your son too, I'm thrilled!
Do you have any K's you'd like to lodge with us?
Oh, the wildlife is a delight, really lifts my spirit!
Better weather again today. Managed 14525 steps, 10km on the nose so made my target. Still in wellies as its so wet on the moor. Hoping for a road walk on Thursday and better mileage. Tomorrows target...10kms plus!
No mention of the bar being open after our whale spotting so heading for an early night.
Hi, thanks for your concern ,have not been feeling great all week with the cold so no exercise until friday when we went dancing for 2hours and then tonight went again for 3 hours dancing. Feeling much better today just hope hubby hasn't picked it up!!
Oh dear Lizzie, that's not good Fingers crossed for Mr Skinny! I'm glad you're feeling better though
Were you wearing your fitbit when you were dancing?
No didn't wear fitbit , hubby has got it now unfortunately so we are a sorry pair today!!. only 2500 steps today plus 2 hours cleaning my new motorhome!! really excited about this. Have wanted one for 25 years ,have caravan already but now feel fit enough to attempt cycling which is what you need on back with one of these and you can tour more easily. But you have to be fit enough to walk or cycle!
