My OH and I are interested in setting a fitness goal this year. I suggested signing up for a 5k event, my OH suggested a triathlon (although I think that would be a bit too much for two couch potatoes). I'm curious what other fitness challenges people set themselves? Are there any good charity/organised events that don't involve running?

Thanks, I considered it, but I need to get a pedometer! I'll see whether I can get one at the weekend!
Would suggest something light hearted and fun so it's something to look forward to. I know you said stuff that doesn't involve running but I've always fancied a colour run though never been able to make it to one. I think a 5k event could be very achievable if you allow yourself plenty of time - have you seen the nhs couch to 5k programme? There's a forum for it on here with loads of lovely supportive people going through it with you. You could also find a charity event and try and raise money with sponsorship...this will make you accountable and keep you motivated to get to the end.
If you really don't want to run why not have a look at a video series such as the Jillian Michaels 30 day shred - it's an old friend I revisit regularly when I need something structured to get moving again. I personally would recommend doing this every other day rather than every day as your body really does need recovery time. If you get to the end of the 30 sessions schedule a treat in for yourselves as a reward for finishing. Just a couple of thoughts 😊
We live by the park our local colour run leaves from, and it does look like fun! I'm just hoping there are other events besides running, as my OH isn't too keen (so why he suggested a triathlon is beyond me!)
I tried out Jillian Michaels workout 1 on youtube, it's good, but my IH would hate it!
I'm really keen to find something for him too. He's got his head in the sand! has high blood pressure, eats poorly and never exercises. I'm trying to win him round!
Hi Cooper - you and your OH are welcome to join the Around the World in 80 Days challenge that Moreless and I run. Its a really great challenge - so much fun. We get to see so many wonderful places and get to learn some great dances. All I need you to do is count the steps/kms/miles that you do and I need you to post on a daily basis. Hi lizzy! I considered joining you but I need to get a pedometer! For some reason I can't get apps to work. I will see what I can get at the weekend, and might pop by.
Hi,
I started out really unfit but when I managed a 5km walk I signed up for a 10km walk for Alzheimer's which took place about 4 months later. I found it a great motivator. I'd say set yourself a sensible but challenging challenge, if it's too hard you may simply give up. The 5km run seems sensible.
Good luck
