Fish Pie? I'm not sure what that is. I might want to try it if it's healthy . Is it anything like tuna casserole ?
I know what fish is and I know pie, but I don't know them together.

Fish pie can be as healthy as you want to make it. Traditionally you make the sauce with a mix of butter, flour and milk (roux) but you can use creme fraiche instead. It's normally topped with mashed potato, not pastry, but to make it healthier you can half the potatoes with leeks or another root veg then mash with creme fraiche instead of butter and milk. Hope this helps, fish pie is one of my favourites, it can be naughty or nice
Ps I love it with lots of grated cheese on top
I' going to try it , I'll let you know.

Thank you for the web site. It sounds so good. I'm wondering if only one or two kinds of fish are normally used, left overs if you have them?
I use haddock, smoked haddock, salmon and prawns in mine and add broccoli and peas, but honestly, you could use any combination you like
I use mashed pumpkin, or butternut squash for the topping, rather than potato.
Thanks for giving me some yummy ideas!
I love fish pie.
I love fish pie made the healthy way. I buy fish pie mix from the fish bar in Morrisons
You can also get frozen fish pie mix from sainsburys. My daughter says it was lovely, I'm going to have a go next time I'm at that store. X
I live in the States. When I Googled fish pie I was directed to British web sites. I'm not sure if America knows about fish pie. I found a recipe from Nigella Lawson for nursery fish pie which I plan to try. Fish pie mix might be available in a specialty store . I'd like to have a go too.
How about fishcakes. There was a recipe posted on here ages ago for mashed sweet potato and tinned tuna mixed and fried into cakes (I fry in shallow oil/frylight then finish them in the oven) - you can add spices/onion into the mix, really tasty I make them in batches and freeze them.
That sounds very good. I need to get more fish into my new healthy eating plan.I think food new to me will make this much more interesting. Thank you.
I make an alternative fish pie which i think must be lower cal than the original recipe.
Any white fish cooked in a sauce of tomato puree-onion-garlic-ginger topped with potato & parsnip or potato & cauliflower mash. Major yummies! No cream, a little butter or olive oil in the mash.
