Attempt #3057

I've lost and gained and lost and gained so many times before I feel like there's no point. I can barely stick at it for a week at a time, and feel so defeated I can't even start up again anymore! How do others overcome these feelings?

I felt like that for five years. I was in total denial. Then I started day one, followed by day 2, then after 8 days I thought it would be a shame to go through those eight days again. Now at two months I don't want to mess up two months work. That is how I am doing it.

Plus I am getting support from this group.

By never ever giving up. Come on rj you can do it but you have to stop thinking of it as a diet. More a lifestyle change. Tomorrow is another day. Make a plan and stick to it. You know what to do and we are all behind you.

Wise words, you do need a plan too

Hi, It:s a horrible situation to be in isn't it? I have been in exactly the same position myself, starting a new diet on Monday having a few good days or even weeks then falling off the wagon. I decided not to try again until I undertook a complete rethink of my relationship with food. I did a lot of research to come up with a plan which I am currently following. This is only week 4 for me, it's going well, but I know after 50 years of a troubled relationship with food there is a long way to go.

I suggest you think about what is important to you, not someone else, what has worked and not worked in the past. This is a marathon, not a sprint, it takes a change in thinking as much as a change in eating.

Good luck, keep posting

Hello and welcome....this forum really helps. Eat healthily with the NHS plan and small steps....now that really sounds so simple doesn't it but we all know its not....post and keep posting...that helps and keeps the munchies away as you get distracted.....try it and let me know how you get on.

Morning, it is hard, its about trying tk make it a lifestyle change and not focusing on it being a diet!! If we feel we are making ourselves do without then off course we want it! 😱

I know exactly how you feel, and sympathise entirely. I have felt like that so many times in the past - and it just makes it worse each time.

All I can say is to forget what has happened in the past - you can't change it. But keep trying to start again - I promise you that at some point it will 'click', you just have to get some kind of plan together. The worst part is always the first week or so - after that, if you start to be successful, the motivation of seeing some weight loss will help.

So make a plan for the next two weeks - stick to it, and don't worry about anything after that for now. Then see how you feel, and hopefully you will feel a bit better about it all :-)
