Hi Everyone, after a fairly healthy life Ive started to put on weight and the NHS BMI calculated tells me I need to lose 2 stone (I've not gone metric yet). Retired now but still have allotment and look after my daughters gardens + play badminton when I can find someone of my low standard to play with. Like walking too ... but despite all the previous I am putting on weight. I love food and drink and find it hard not to indulge when I get the urge. Curries, pastas, chilli con carne, roast chicken ... even typing out the east makes my mouth water. Drink? Well I guess I average a pint of beer a day or half a bottle of wine or maybe a couple of shorts / cocktails. Every day ...
As of today I am 14stone 9 lbs (height 6'1") and the aim is to get to 12stone 7lb and see what my BMI looks like then. Christmas and birthdays on the horizon though so lots of temptation on the way .. any help or inspiration welcome from the community!

Due to my love of alcohol and food I have put on 2 stone
Hi Rich,
Have you had a look at the NHS 12 week plan, it's a good place to start, has loads of advice, ideas and guidelines re food choices, calories and exercise.
You can eat what you like but need to look at portions and cooking low fat, but go for it !!😃
Welcome to the forum, this is a great group of people who will help, encourage and inspire you every step of the way.
I echo what others have said about the NHS 12 week plan, it's a really doable way to shed those unwanted pounds, I started last March and I've managed to shed over 3 stone. Like you I'm retired, I left my lifetime career in May 2013 and just got heavier and heavier then I discovered this website and the NHS plan. Give it a go I'm sure you will get the results you want.
Hi Jenever, yes I will def give it a try, I feel more determined that is usual for me, just hope it lasts. Am looking after my grandson today so that must be worth 2lbs of weight loss in nervous energy...
Oh the grandchildren...yes they'll help you burn off calories, I love my grandchildren dearly but I think a day at work was so much easier than a day with those guys.
Hi Rich64
You can still eat curries, pastas, chilli and roast chicken on a calorie restricted healthy eating plan. I had a low cal version of spaghetti bolognese for my tea tonight. You just have to modify how you cook and look carefully at the ingredients. I would reiterate what others say about the NHS 12 week weight loss plan. Also perhaps go a bit easy on the alcohol.
Thanks for your comments hggirl, I will def try the 12 week weight loss approach and try to get a bit more exercise that raises my heart rate. Maybe I need a dog! Ive been pretty good with booze over the past few days and cut back by around 50%. Just hope the resolve continues....
