I am 71 and was shocked to find my BMI was 29 way over weight.
I adore cooking and eating but even more a glass of wine.
I do believe all my extra calories are in wine but it so very hard not to have a couple. After a weekend away I gained 4 lbs.

Hi grannykx2
Welcome to the weight loss forum.
You don't have to give up wine, just try cutting it down to reduce your calorie intake so instead of 2 glasses a night have one.
Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.
Have a look at the Daily Diary which you can find on the Home page in Events. It is where all the members are sharing their daily plans on what they are eating and any exercise they are doing. This thread will give you some ideas on how to start.
Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.
Take your measurements at the start together with a photo so you can see the changes on the days the scales don't move.
We have daily weigh ins so why not come along and join us today. You can find the weigh ins on the Home page in the Events section on the right. Just click on the post in Events and record your start weight and any loss/gain or maintain for the week.
To get the most of the forum be active, share tips, recipes and experiences. Read some of the posts they are very motivating.
Have a good first week.
Rose
Hi grannykx2 and welcome
I totally agree with Rose that you don't have to cut out the wine totally. Include it in your calorie allowance for the day and you will be fine.
Wisging you all the best with your weight loss journey
Try a white wine spritzer, using fizzy water, really chilled, and sit and drink it (and more importantly, enjoy it!) before you start cooking.
I treat myself to a glass of wine nearly every day. I sit and have one with my husband before I start cooking dinner. I count it in my daily calorie total. If we have friends round, then I make it a spritzer, so I can have two like everyone else, but I'm actually only having half as much. But as I have said already, focus on it and enjoy it. It's the same as eating anything - if you eat mindfully, as some people call it, you are less likely to have too much.
And I love cooking and eating too. I am enjoying finding delicious recipes (have you tried the Hairy Dieters books -all calorie counted for you) and cooking interesting meals. No boring rabbit food for me! But planning and calorie counting are the keys to success, grannykx2
Good luck to you!
I'm a 66 year old granny and my BMI is also 29. I too love my wine. I've started diluting it with soda water ( the low cal type( now and as long as I include it in my calories each day I can stay on track.
I think it's best not to give up something you enjoy or you'll scupper your resolve.
Best of luck
