Calorie allowance

The nhs sheet says women should have 1400 calories a day. I just downloaded my fitness pal as so many people here have recommended it. I entered my details and it says my allowance is 1200. I am wondering which figure I should use ?

Hi, I've just downloaded this app too and you can go in and change the calories - 1200 seems to be a generic setting. Let me know if you struggle

I forgot about that - yes I had to manually change mine to 1400 too.

So as a small woman with about a stone to lose. 1200 is probably about right?

Years ago when doing ww I was only allowed 1000.

Nhs bmi calculator says between 1300 and 1700 a day. It gets more confusing. Think I will try for 1200 and if I go over a bit I won't worry. Also I can save some calories for treat days!

I just upped it on mfp to 1300 but I came in under that anyway and don't feel either deprived nor hungry. And I didn't eat my hours walking calories or my tummy busting ones !, I did ok last week losing nearly 4lbs without calorie counting every single thing I am quite good at avoiding high calorie foods and having smaller portions. But this week I will try and write it all down and see what mfp makes of my diet and we will see what the scales say next Monday. If I don't lose I will go back to my guesstimating.

Just to add my experience to the others. Being new to dieting I stuck to the 1400 suggested by the 12 week plan and added lots of exercise, and so far I've been losing about 2lbs a week. The actual calories I have consumed have ranged between 1100 and (once) 1500ish. My starting weight was 9st 7 and I'm just 5ft 2 so aiming to lose a stone. sounds like you're doing ok from what you've said, YYNM.

I've lost 4 st 3 lbs since middle of fen this year using my fitness pal on 1200 calories absolutly great app I swear by it and a little tip I drink fresh squeezed lemons in hAlf a cup of boiled water every morning. Before I eat breakfast I leave it about 30 mins then have breakfast if that little tip helps I hope it had for me good luck Lizzo
