Binge Eating

Hi, I am just starting to try and cut out snacks etc in my diet. I am constantly rewarding myself with cheese on toast constantly. Does anyone have any advice to stop the snacking? I get the idea in my head and all I can think about is eating that snack. 90% of the time I am not even hungry.

I have the same problem - I think it's about getting out of the routine and perhaps doing something else to distract you, so that you don't feel the need to sit and eat a snack.

If you're not hungry, perhaps try to gently tell yourself that you have everything you need right now and to go back to it in an hour or so to see how you feel?

Just an idea... I'd be keen to hear any advice too!

I always try to distract myself for a bit or drink water to fill me up, if none of that works it normally means im actually hungry so will have a healthy snack. Find what works for you ive heard some people brush their teeth as food tastes horrid afterwards so stops them snacking.

Good luck and stay strong

I am the same especially in the evening. It was suggested saying to yourself to wait 30 minutes before having a snack and only if your still hungry. I found crackers and low fat cheese spread was a life saver in the evening.

I think the 5:2 diet is great.I mean it helps you cut back on unnecessary snacking. It starts making your body more used to eating only when hungry.I highly recommend that. Also,if its a particular time of the day that you feel like snacking pick up some random work during that time and get yourself distracted.I tend to snack on a lot of junk in the evening even though I am not hungry so I have started going for a walk in the evening.Rest will power can take you miles and take each day as it come.

Hope it helps :-)

I have started filling a big water bottle with lemon slices and water which if you drink constantly seems to help. Also try keeping healthy snacks only like carrot sticks and humous, rice cakes, cup a soup, fruit and cereal bars. I have started drinking green tea today as that is meant to help your metabolism but it will take a while aparently. Good luck and keep going! :)

Thanks everyone :) It is so good to know I am not alone!

I have filled a bottle of water with a strawberry and mint, so far it is helping a lot and tastes great!

Both the no2binge and the 5:2 diet sound great, now just to pick which to attempt first, or maybe both together :)

These two articles came from MyFitnessPal recently

water water and more water. I keep track of how many glasses I have and that helps me. I also cut up veggies to have if in a panic. Also maybe trying to find other things besides food to enjoy and keep busy with (damn I sound like a book)! BUT it's what I'm desperately trying to do myself.....ugh. How about planting some seedlings, draw, paint, walk, dance whatever....step away from the kitchen! Good luck......I know the one!
