Off days.

I had one yesterday!

Making changes for life and joining this community was working well until I found myself in the supermarket yesterday buying all the wrong things!

So maybe it will help if I make confessions here too!

So this is what I bought

White magnums

Caramel cake

Maltesers

Revels

pitza

2 pkts ready to eat fruit

Coleslaw

I ate one magnum and most of the cake and resisted the rest!

On the good side I started the day with an 8 a. m. 45 minute swim.

I had just taken my overweight sister and my 95 yr old mum to the train after they had been staying with me for a few days. We had talked a lot about dieting!

......obviously my mental state was I've gotta have some junk. Like NOW!

It sounds like the conversation about dieting made you think too negatively about the things you can't have, rather than focussing on the positive reasons and goals for making healthy changes? But that swim got you back on track quickly enough - which represents a really positive change in your attitude? I've noticed that I also recover more quickly from lapses now too. Also, it's good to keep them in proportion and not completely give up, which maybe we would have done in the past! Perhaps that type of 'diet conversation' needs to be avoided in future though :)

Oh dear, don't dwell on this blip just move forward and learn from the experience. Now your visitors have gone home you can concentrate on you and be a bit more selfish & there's absolutely nothing wrong with being selfish! I find the best time to go to the supermarket is after I've eaten and I always have a list that I try my hardest to stick to. I have a very sweet tooth and I adore ice cream and the only way I can deal with that is by not buying anything sweet and steering clear of the ice cream aisle! Move on and good luck.

Grocery shopping is the most difficult thing to do. My husband likes to do it as he sticks to specifics whilst I tend to browse.

When I am in the right mood I buy lots of healthy stuff.

Sorry to hijack thread, concerned, why beans? I've had awful heartburn recently after eating beans, I was blaming lack of saliva (hospital appt next week) for not digesting properly but I'd be interested to know why you don't eat them. Re grocery shopping I try to go when I'm not too tired or hungry them I buy better things, and make a list and set a time limit results in a healthier trolley! Popgoes, you're right, the more you think of being deprived the more you want stuff you shouldn't have! I'm trying to get round that by planning something quick to cook, really tasty but also healthy so I'm looking forward to it.
