I’ve been overweight a good part of my life. I have gained and lost 100s of lbs. Currently, I am at my heaviest but I have also reached the point where it’s time. Time to stop lying to myself and back into the best shape of my life. I know this is going to be a long and difficult road. I’m just tired of having leg and knee pain and being out of breath. And I’m looking for support and help.
Thanks

Welcome to the forum. It is a great place to get ideas, recipes and encourgaement. Take your time and remember losing weight is a marathon not a sprint, it will take time but for each pound off you are a step closer to your finish line.
Have you decided what method you are going to use? I use calorie counting.
Yes welcome. Well you probably know a thing or two about this weightloss malarky, including how hard maintenance is long term. But its very good that you have drawn a line and said ’enough’. Aches and pains are cetainly a good incentive to lose weight and you might find losing just some of what you’re planning to lose in total will start to ease some of those. Perhaps start to think about your new regime as a ’new way of eating’ rather than a diet so allow yourself the odd treat but focus on healthy sustaining meals that you can learn to enjoy. When I’ve visited the USA I realised how important it is to label-read everything, because they seem to add sugar or starch to the most unexpected things. Have a good first week.
Embarking on a journey to better health and fitness is commendable, and having the right mindset and support can make all the difference. Here are some tips to help you along this path:
Create a Sustainable Plan
Balanced Diet: Focus on a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains. Consider consulting a nutritionist.
Exercise Routine: Incorporate both cardio and strength training exercises. Start with low-impact activities like walking, swimming, or cycling to reduce joint strain.
Track Your Progress
Food Diary: Keep a food diary to monitor what you eat and identify any patterns or triggers.
Fitness App: Use a fitness app to track your workouts, steps, and overall progress.
Build a Support System
Family and Friends: Share your goals with family and friends who can provide encouragement and accountability.
Support Groups: Join a support group or an online community of people with similar goals. This can provide motivation and practical advice.
Stay Consistent and Patient
Routine: Establish a daily routine that includes exercise and meal preparation time.
Patience: Understand that progress takes time and that setbacks are part of the journey. Don’t get discouraged by occasional lapses.
Reward Yourself
Milestones: Set up rewards for reaching milestones (e.g., a new workout outfit, a massage, or a day off).
Positive Reinforcement: Reinforce positive behavior with rewards that don’t involve food.
Once again, we remind you that this is a peer to peer support forum and so far you've not mentioned whether or not you're on a weight loss journey. Is emotional/stress related eating something you've experienced personally?
