Welcome Willow308. This is a great site for inspiration, support and advice. Most here seems to agree slow and steady is the best way and try to make changes for life (that you can maintain) rather than a quick fix and then piling it back on. I have a lot to lose but taking it steady and making good progress. Good luck and try to visit this site daily if you can as it can help you stay focussed.
Many thanks for your comments sueper, I do agree slow and steady is the best way. I plan on counting calories, most people think this is the best way to lose weight.
What plan are you following, and how are you doing. x
Hi Willow, I am following my own plan I have 10+ stone to lose so at this stage just cutting down a lot and learning to change my attitude to food. I have pretty much cut out sweet biscuits, reduced the bad snacking and now I am working on portion sizes. I am also walking pretty much every day.
I vaguely know how many calories I am having and try to do 2 days a week where I only have about 1000 calories per day.
I am not cutting anything out completely as I want to try to maintain this long term so no point in making it impossible to succeed by cutting out all of may favourite foods.
What I am doing seems to be working for me. I have lost 22 lb so far, averaging about 2lb a week.
Well done sueper on losing 22Ibs that's a brilliant loss.
I have been reading a lot about this 5.2 where you cut your calories down on two days, I could fit that in to my week quite easy, any thoughts on this.
Just down loaded my first week, so I will be starting tomorrow.
Have a good few days, just of to have my Chinese meal with friends, so I intend to enjoy it tonight.
Hi, Hope you enjoyed your Chinese meal tonight I couldn't manage with the proper 5:2 as on the 2 days you only have about 500 cals and I am a very fussy eater. But I can manage 1000 cals quite easily and as I have quite a few cals per day due to my weight, eating only 1000 cals on those days is probably about right and is working for me. Obviously as time goes on and I lose more weight (hopefully) my daily calories will reduce and I will have to make a few more changes to make but for now I am heading in the right direction.
Hope you can work out what is best for you and you see some positive changes over the next few weeks.
I too have been struggling Been with Weight Watchers since Jan and only lost 5 pounds & probably put on 1 over the weekend! Lost a whole stone last year, then had a minor op' on my hand, ever since slowly kept back up. Very little motivation. Think maybe, old fashioned calorie counting might work better??
Walk, and aquafit once a week but injury to muscle and tendon means can't exercise a lot. Good luck .. what plan are you following?
Hi Pixey3, thank you for your comments, like yourself I lost weight with WW last year and put it all back on, I'm so cross with myself.
I'm planning on counting calories, and also serving our meals up on smaller plates, the plates we have been using are massive which doesn't help with portion control.
What plan are you following ? Is it going well.
Sorry to hear about your injuries, hope they improve soon.
We are out for a Chinese tonight so I am planning on starting tomorrow, Chinese food is not the easiest food to count.
Thanks. I still go to WW but find weekends difficult as we eat out & I like a drink but only at weekends. I follow veggie recipes, sometimes ready meals but with WW (NO CALORIE COUNTING) means I think can eat a lot more than I would if I knew how many cals I was consuming. Eat mostly very low fat but seem to be peckish every couple of hours! Some days when I'm tired, I nibble on savoury snacks.. so that doesn't help.
Enjoy your Chinese and don't feel guilty! Tomorrow is another new day to begin
Hello and welcome like you i have done the slimming clubs and lost then put more back on so 5 weeks ago i found this site and started the nhs 12 week healthy eating and exercise plan and i can tell you im very happy that i did as i weighed this morning and ive lost another 2lb bringing my total now up to 16lb. Unlike slimming world i can have what i like as long as i stick to my 1400 calories a day and i also exercise 5 days a week, i track my calories with my fitness pal which is easy to use and it will tell you how many calories you should be having when you put in your height and weight. But i have to say the most important thing that has helped me lose weight is the support you get on here its brilliant and unlike the slimming clubs you can ask questions whenever you want there is always someone that will reply.
Read some of the posts on here and follow some people that have been on here a while and it will really set you up for when you start in the morning and check out myfitnesspal.com it will help you along the way. Enjoy your meal tonight and good luck for the rest of the week.
I lost the three stone I needed to in six months on the 5:2 Diet after watching Michael Mosley's excellent Horizon programme in 2012, "Eat, Fast and Live Longer" tinyurl.com/qzgo7tq or tinyurl.com/a8ppjl7 and went from a size 16 to a size 10 by eating 500 calories two non-consecutive days a week. I've been maintaining my weight loss since April 2013 by just fasting one day a week - in the past I piled the weight back on as soon as I finished 'dieting'. I'd very much recommend you read Kate Harrison's book, "The 5:2 Diet" (tinyurl.com/qe6mz4u) - it really does work, it's totally FREE and it will save you a fortune (towards your smaller clothes!).
I'd also recommend a free app for your phone called MyFitnessPal. Counting calories is very important so you can see how much you're eating and therefore eat mindfully rather than mindlessly. There are excellent videos in the Help section on the app that show you how it works - there's even a barcode reader to scan in branded foods.
It's important you don't eat more than your TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) on non-fasting days. You can work that out here thefastdiet.co.uk/how-many-.... If yours works out at more than 2000 then aim at 2000 on non-fasting days.
Here I am in the Daily Mail on 7th January tinyurl.com/m7rqecq. The other two ladies’ stories are inspiring!
I'm with you with the on- off thing. The only sound advice I've had is in a book about using cognitive behavioural approach to over come weight problems:- change habits and work on that and not go for the weight - weight falls off and stays off once good habits of mind and action are established. Changing habits for life is hard. I've broken the anxious weighing habit over the last year. Working on regular exercise bike. Still finding healthy snacking instead of heaps of jam sandwiches SO SO hard. I've got out of the habit of carrying enough low GI food I might fancy on me and when hunger strikes plus stress, I slip. and then want to comfort eat on top for failing... back on the wagon today, tho...
I agree with everything you said its just so hard to keep it up, does that mean I'm lazy or just lacking motivation.
i lost 3 stone last year really worked hard at it, started to feel really healthy loved looking in a mirror to see how much the clothes looked better on.
Then my mum had to be nursed at home for 6 months by myself, can't believe the stress and I'm a nurse, gained all my weight back.
Once again i felt like a failure, i need to change for good, i so much want to loose this weight for good.
Good luck with you this week, one day at a time. xx
