just getting started

i'm 18 and very overweight, and haven't regularly done physical activity for 2 years or so. but today i've decided i need to do something about my weight. however, i don't have the time, money or opportunity to join a gym or go swimming, so am trying to do what i can at home, which makes things more difficult. i'm looking at using the nhs 10 minute workouts, but i'm so clueless i don't really understand all the exercises. today, i'm 87.4kg and hate myself. what are the best ways to exercise at home with very little equipment? and how do you stay motivated (because losing weight doesn't seem to be enough for me)?

My buddy suggested to me to buy a pedomiter which would help you see the steps and calories you have used, plus as you have no money, walking/running up steps/stairs at home is a cheap way, but I used to enjoy doing swimming or aqua aerobics or zumba, but unfortunately can't do these due to my knees having problems, but its a great way, wish I could do it now, or possibly buy a secondhand bike for home use. Good luck.

I try to go for a walk every day. It's easier if you have a destination in mind - maybe head to a shop to buy a magazine or something you actually need (just don't buy snacks!). With walking you have to spend a bit longer doing it to get as much benefit, but it's a great place to start.

It's also beneficial to get your heart rate up significantly at least once a day. Doing something like running up and down stairs is a great way to do this, When you're out of exercise, it only takes a few days of getting your heart rate up to really start to notice a difference.

To really start to lose weight, you need to get to grips with how much food you are consuming. If you haven't already, use this tool by the NHS to see how many calories to be eating a day - nhs.uk/Tools/Pages/Healthyw...

Lastly, don't hate yourself! If you think you don't look great, then just imagine how you'll look in a few months and use it as motivation, but there's no need to beat yourself up!

Hi i understand how you feel i dont know much about exercise but i think ways in which you could feel motivated is thinking about

How you will look after you lose the excess weight

Health benefits

and with many unhealthy foods is fat and sugar and ask yourself is it worth it

thats a few ways that help me also try small changes rather than changing everything and good luck !!!

Whatever else you do, keep at it now. I was overweight at 18, I am fifty next week and still trying to lose weight only now I need two knee replacements which makes exercise even harder.

I heard somewhere during the week that diet is the only way to lose weight, exercise just helps along the way. So exercise when you can, the pedometer is a great idea, but focus on healthy eating and please keep it up and stay healthy.

I wish you every success.
