Just getting started.

Hi everyone, I joined here hoping that this forum will help me to get my life back on track and to be healthy.

I have recently been diagnosed pre -diabetic, hypothyroid and pcos. I also have a Binge Eating Disorder although not diagnosed but I have asked and begged for help over the last 7 years. I am still pushing for help and hope to get something soon, they wouldn't take me seriously when I was slimmer but now i am over the BMI threshold they are starting to listen - kinda.

I need to loose 6 stone since my eating disorder got out of hand and I am going to a Pre-Diabetes prevention course starting Wednesday. I have tried so many diets and have even trained as an Eating Psychologist trying to find a way through it all by myself as the GP's wouldn't take my ED seriously. Complicated mental well being you can't always figure out alone and you need support.

Work is so stressful it is contributing to my ill health but trying so hard to not let it take over.

Since actively trying to loose weight and eating 3 meals a day i have put more on, it is very frustrating and that triggers the unhealthy habits back up again.

Hoping writing on here and meeting other people going through similar things will help!

Hi, Thanks so much for the links.

I am bored hypo at the moment and my endo has been holding off giving me medication until i loose weight. I have been trying but don't seem to getting anywhere i loose half a pound and then put on even when i have been eating healthy. After 3 weeks of that i end up caving in and triggered.

My TSH levels are lower than before (under the threshold for medication) but still too high, in 6 weeks I go back to the endo i will be starting medication as he is supporting it i just hoped to go back him and show that i have lost weight.

Hoping the support from the pre- diabetes course and this forum will help.

I'm afraid you're either hypo, or your not. The reliance on blood tests, particularly TSH levels, are incorrect and leave people extremely unwell. If you had cancer, would an oncologist refuse treatment until you'd lost weight? That goes beyond negligence!

You are legally entitled to printouts of your blood tests and the extremely knowledgeable members of the Thyroid UK forum will tell you whether you need medicating.

Bear in mind that you're probably overweight BECAUSE you're hypo!

I have been unwell for some time, I am also anaemic at the moment my health is in a spin.

My Endo is actually really good he does support me taking the medication my GP doesn't, my endo said my TSH is lower than the NHS recommendation for taking medication but he is happy to prescribe. I am just against taking medication if not needed and he said weight could possibly bring it back down as TSH can fluctuate. In the last 6 months and has gone down from 8 to 5 but still feel rubbish all the time.

I am going back in 6 weeks so i think i might go on it, still want to show him i have lost weight though.

I would love to say that my weight gain is down to hypo but its because i have eaten way too much, have to hold my hands up there. :-) The binging did it to me years ago but on 4/5stone but the last bit is probably down to the other stuff going on.

Thanks so much for your help, its been a long fight over the years to get my GP's to listen hopefully it will all come together soon. :-)

It took 15 years to get my pcos diagnosis!

If you were a diabetic, would you refuse insulin? You would not be medicated for hypothyroidism, you would be replacing a hormone that your body is unable to manufacture, just the same as a type 1 diabetic.

I honestly believe that once you're optimally treated, everything else will start to fall into place.

Join the TUK forum and start reading posts and you'll start to understand better.

Hello Rachel000 :) It seems that all the focus has been on your behaviour, rather than what you're eating and the physiological effects it has. The links moreless has given you, plus the diabetes prevention course should help you enormously, It will probably mean big changes but it sounds as though you are up for that :)
