Hi - just decided that I need to start the hard journey of losing 4 stone. Feeling quite emotional and overwhelmed.

Dont worry! Break it down into small goals like:

lose 7lbs -by losing 2-3 pounds a week for three weeks.

lose 14lbs - by losing 2-3 pounds a week for the next three weeks.

no worries break it nto smaller goals that you can feel happy every week by losing 1/2 kg like that.make anote of aht you are eating and keep fruits and vegetables handy all the time so you dont startve and go for crisps or something available. make a plan for some physical activity and have light dinners.

Good idea - I've tried losing weight before and ending up binging on crisps in the evening etc!!

Are you using the myfitnesspal app? It helps count calories and you can add your progress to see how well your doing.... im on week 6 of 12 and have lost a stone, I hit the gym pretty much everyday. Honestly its the best app ever!! Good luck!

hi ive just read your comment and have downloaded the app! I am a gym member , started off with all good intentions but now have lost the interest and have not been for a couple of months. To be honest I find it quite boring. l am trying to persuade my hubby to join but he says he doesn't have the time. Any suggestions?

I had this too... I joined in june/july and then stopped going as i lost motivation. But when I downloaded this app I wanted to take it seriously and with the calorie limit, the gym allowed me that little bit more to eat. But now Im used to eating less and just got into the routine. I never gave myself excuses to go, I kept my gym stuff in my car so when I had time between shifts Id go to the gym. Its purely routine now... I wish I could help more...

Congrats! You can drop a pound a week by trimming 500 calories each day. (Calories burned are based on a 150-pound woman.) You should aslo step away from nuts. Nuts have heart-healthy fats, but they’re also high in calories: 1 handful (about 1 ounce) of oil-roasted mixed nuts has 175 calories; 3 handfuls have 525.

Thanks for this encouragement. Aiming to lose 1lb per week doesn't feel so impossible as losing 4 st!!! xx

1lb a week is just 4lb short of 4 stone in a year. By Christmas 2015 you'll be at goal weight. Go for it!

That would be wonderful - if only! Thanks for the encouragement.

Congratulations to you on starting a weight loss journey. You have done the hardest part. Naturally, setbacks are part of the process. You will always be faced with temptations, stress, and other factors that entice you to choose the unhealthy option. That is expected, normal, and perfectly fine. It does not mean you failed on your commitment. Give yourself permission to stray off the path and forgive yourself when you do. Make sure to be back on your fitness wagon. Moving towards a healthier lifestyle is fun and exciting. You will feel and look better than ever before so have fun with it and enjoy your journey.
