So today is the first day of my new healthier life style!

I have 48lb to lose to get me to a healthy happy weight. I start a university course in September so want to have made good changes by then so then the study will slot in around that.

Wish me luck! Would love any tips and advice. I have yo-yo'd for years and I am hoping by not following a diet and using these tools this change might actually be for life!!

Have you considered the 5:2 Diet? I lost 42 pounds in six months on it and I've maintained my weight loss since April last year by just 'fasting' (up to 500 calories) one day a week. It stems from a brilliant BBC Horizon programme that aired in August 2012 "Eat, Fast and Live Longer" vimeo.com/54089463 and then Kate Harrison brought out her book called The 5:2 Diet (it's on Amazon and Kindle).

With every other diet I've ever tried I've lost the weight, stopped dieting and promptly put it all back on again, and more!

If you want to ask any questions about it, then please do!

Good luck! I am in a very similar situation to you.

Good morning. There are so many different ways to lose weight - it's all about finding the one that works for you . I have lost 29lbs in just over 2 months by sticking to 1200 calories a day . I always allow myself a little of what I fancy everyday and that seems to be working for me.

Hi, you have made the first important step by not looking at this as a 'diet'. If you are following the 12 week plan guidelines you will be aiming for a sustainable way of eating healthily.

My tips are to plan your meals well in advance so you are not thinking about what to make, not getting too hungry so you rush for anything quick and to use smaller plates. I tend to have a protein based breakfast which lasts me better than porage or toast.

Good luck and if you want to increase exercise, I thoroughly recommend C25K.

Good morning - a nice sunny day to start a healthier lifestyle. In todays Mail on Sunday (or DM app) there's an article about the 5:2 (Fast) Diet - worth reading. Good Luck.
