I have IBS which doesn't help as it can cause me to get bloated. I'm slimming down through exercise - I haven't lost much weight but have lost 3.5% body fat. Is there a specific way to loss my belly????

Have a look on fitness blender.com. Dozens of workouts for different parts of the body. They are graded from easy to hard. I use 2 or 3 of them regularly and best of all it's free!

I too used to have irritable bowel, but found that keeping wheat, gluten and sugar out of my diet has really helped.

Sorry there is no way to control where we lose weight. Where the fat comes off first varies from person to person, but if you keep at it you should see the results you want. Make sure to take measurements as well. I find it hard to tell day to day whether I am toning up my mid section, but if I can see I have lost inches then I know it is working.

Doing exercises that strengthen the core muscles can make your stomach seem flatter due to better posture. I've also seen others advise to work on building a more curvy bum to accentuate your waist :) So, it might be worth while trying to add more lower body / core strength exercises and see if you see a difference after a few weeks.

Hi, I am trying to diet with the calorie controlled method and I am very disciplined throughout the day but, once I have my evening meal then my resolve disappears big time!! I cannot resist snacking and undoing all the good work achieved during the day. Please can anybody advise. I do try to curb my appetite by drinking plenty of water but to no avail.

Its a matter of habit, so small changes are more manageable. If you know you WILL snack no matter what, set aside a tiny portion of your favourite snack(s) - just enough to satisfy the cravings - and leave the rest inaccessible. Calculate the snack calories in your total daily calories. Slowly wean yourself out of bad snacking habits and take pride in small achievements. Whenever I feel the urge to reward myself with an unhealthy snack in the evening (for being good all day!) I remind myself the 'reward' is actually 'poison' or 'punishment' for my body. I think about all the negative things that snack will do to me. I also think about how much exercise I have to do to burn away a single biscuit or pack of crisp, and the thought is sometimes enough to stay away from the snack. Put thought into everything you eat, and don't eat mindlessly. Good luck with your efforts! I am trying too.

I like Chirpy's psychological tactics :) Dieting is very much being in the right state of mind.

Hi PhyllisK, I found this hard too! Try to plan your meals I think that helps. Try not to keep snacks in the house, or try healthy substitutions. Although a yummy treat is tempting and we feel we deserve it, I remind myself how hard it is to burn the calories! It's in the mind..have an image of what you want to achieve and that should help. Good luck!

Thank you. I stood in the sunshine yesterday wearing trousers and a tee shirt and felt very sad that I had allowed the weight to creep up again during the winter months, I will follow your advise and try really hard to be disciplined. Once again thank you for responding to my cry for help.

Remember anything is possible. Try to make small changes and have achievable goals. Expecting too much too soon with weight loss can bring back old habits I've found. Good luck :)

ChirpyChick, sorry this response is so late! thank you for your advise. sadly I have snacked again but will try harder tomorrow. I bought a pedometer with the intention of doing 10.000 steps a day. I achieved 9.000 yesterday and almost the same today, I am determined to reach my goal over the weekend. once again thank you.

Phyl.

PhyllisK - sorry it was late - but better late than never :-)

Keep going - and keep putting thought into what you eat. I am on a mission too! We'll get there if we put good efforts to it. Little bumps and hiccups should not deter us.

Hi Scarlet38,

I agree with albionjen.

As you lose body fat, which bits of your body let go of their stored fat in what order ... is seemingly determined by aspects of your DNA.

However, you can do exercises that might help you 'hold' your abdomen better by strengthening the upper, mid and lower ab muscles and the side abs too.
