Constipation severe have tried x-lax, ... - Weight Loss Support
Constipation severe have tried x-lax, dulcolax, and glycerin suppository with no relief.
Hi you need to see your GP, you might need an enema.
It's definitely the tramadol. I had the same issue. Dr prescribed movicol for the constipation. You need to take a few sachets to get started then 2 a day. Or, change to different pain relief
unfortunately most opiate painkillers cause this, having suffered from ibs all my life where possible avoid carbs and starchy foods but there isnt many painkiller alternatives, the tramadol usually makes you pee more so lots more fluids than normal required also
Movicol
I agree that it's probably the tramadol. I have taken it for years and am always bothered by constipation. Movicol is good and in hospital they gave me senna tablets as well. Drink as much water as you can and eat fruit.
Thanks for your input. Am better today after using oil retention enema. Finally able to go. Will try more liquids and fiber to prevent the constipation from happening.
My GP. Sent me for colonoscopy to rule out more serious issues and it came up clear but the consultant said he thought my constipation was medication-induced IBS and prescribed Constella. He warned me that one of its side effects was diarrhoea, and wow, was he right! I wouldn't recommend it as a solution to the constipation, and I am persevering with it until I see my GP before deciding whether the side effects are worth it, or if there is an alternative that is not so extreme. I suppose payback time had to come eventually after years of prescription painkillers!
Plenty of water based drinks will help, and fibre. As everyone says you do need to see your GP and rule out anything else.
Dulcoease is readily available and works in a similar way to lactulose, drawing water into the gut so your stools are softer (rather than things like senna which make you strain or other things that cause the opposite effect!). I take 1-2 every day, due to having diverticulosis, to make sure I don't get constipated, and of course drink loads, eat your FAD and stay away from stodgy stuff like pizza and pasta.
