I'm starting the NHS 12 week weight loss plan today and have never tried calorie counting before. Is it hard to get used to?

try myfitnesspal.com/ it's very easy, remembers your frequent food, etc. good luck with the NHS 12 week plan: it did wonders to me!

Hi

I also use myfitnesspal.com/ and find it a very easy way to count my calories. After a while, you will get used to the calories in food - it certainly makes you realise what you eat and makes you think about it, which of course, is a good thing.

Good luck - I am also doing the NHS 12 week plan - have done it before, but still have more weight to lose.

My first day too...bit of a fail, not used to it but also using the myfitnesspal app as was recommended, but seems easy enough to follow. Good luck :-)

Hi

I have also started 12 week NHS weight loss plan from this week. I have been using app for myfitnesspal on my iphone and must say that it is very easy to count the calories using that app. I was surprised to know that what I should eat and how much! So far I have already started feeling great about myself!

Good luck :)

hi, thanks for the replies. I will try the myfitnesspal.com/

I've been finding it ok so far, breakfast and lunch is easy, its just dinner that I'm finding difficult. By the time I get in from work and try to fit in some exercise, I just don't have the motivation to stand and cook. I'm going to look into some low cal recipes that I can portion up and freeze so I can just heat them up.

I'm hoping this plan works. :)

I have also started this week but I am really struggling with the counting. I feel like everything I eat I want to know how much calories it is, I hope it will get better at it with time and as you mentioned before that I will just learn how much calories is in food! I have been particularly bad with sugar content in my food before, so I am sort of watching sugar levels in the food as well! hopefully with time I will just know what to eat and how much of it! good luck to you all :-)

ive just joined five mins ago having done the "how much weight do I need to lose" questions and been told its 11s tones and 5lbs. Feel totally daunted but totally determined!!! so off I go on week one and see how it goes. I wish all other newbies good luck too!!

Know what you mean! Set yourself smaller targets and celebrate reaching them. It says I have 4 1/2 stones to lose & I would then be slimmer than I've been since I was 18 (several decades ago!!). Which would mean I'd need a totally new wardrobe.....

I tried calorie counting before, but found that I kept cutting my calories down as a result, in the end I actually felt quite ill from it and had to stop. It is probably a good idea to do but don't get too obsessed with it. As long as the food you are eating is healthy and its 3 meals a day it shouldn't be too much of an issue. =]

I agree, don't get obsessed with calories, portion size will probably do just as well. Have a look at the post from Kiwihelen on the "hand jive".
