Hello! Exercise DVD recommendations?

Hello - I've just joined today. I'm 5 weeks in to my 12 week programme and pleased to say I've lost 10lbs so far! I've been using MyFitnessPal and MapMyWalk free apps. I'm far too embarrassed to go to the gym and can't really afford classes or anything so have been using my Davina 30 minute workout DVD at least 3 times a week. Can anyone recommend any other good ones? Trying to keep my motivation up with something new! Thanks.

Nell McAndrew Cardio, Core, & Stretch DVD is challenging but fun. It is an hour long but really worth the effort.

Congratulations to you mkemushroom,

I have 3 of Davina's DVDs - Body Buff, Ultimate Target & Intense (I think), and I also have Jillian Michael's 30-day Shred, Billy Blank's Tae Bo library, and his PT 24/7, Zumba, Ministry of Sound (an oldie).

Like you I do 3 DVD workouts a week, rotating with a different title each month. I also do a Zumba and Fitsteps class each week, so I try to do 5 workouts each week.

I am very encouraged by your weight loss so far and am hoping for something similar. I have lost 3lb on my first week, so am hoping that I can continue to lose weight and improve my strength and stamina over the remaining weeks of this programme.

Thanks for sharing your success with us - it's what we all need to keep going!

Well done with your weight loss so far. There is also the NHS 9 week c25k programme - why don't you have a look at that and get outside in the fresh air. If you look at the healthunlocked.com c25k forum you will see a very supportive group of people who never thought that they could run.

I'd also thoroughly recommend the NHS Couch to 5K podcasts nhs.uk/Livewell/c25k/Pages/... which got this old lady running in nine weeks - and I hated running at school. Now I still run three times a week. I wear a Fitbit pedometer so aim at 10,000 steps a day (walking or running) which is just under five miles. On days when it's lashing with rain or blowing a gale I've been doing the Leslie Sansone power walking videos on YouTube and they're excellent. The walks are between one mile (15 minutes) and five miles (75 minutes) and are good fun as well as burning calories. I've never been so slim (thanks to 5:2) or so fit!

Well done!!! I would highly recommend you getting yourself outdoors now that the weather is improving and the mornings are a lot lighter. Also try and have a walk in your lunch time (if you can). I've invested in a static bike so that when I am watching tv at home I can be riding the bike at the same time - gives me a good bottom end of body workout and I don't even notice I'm doing it as I'm absorbed in tv programme. I know we're not supposed to advertise company names etc on this website as HealthUnlocked can get into trouble so all I will say is that my static bike was £99 and it's from a well known high street company beginning with the letter A - oh and it folds up too so it doesn't take up much space. Hope this helps x
