Hi monkey07.
Well I'd suggest you have a good read around the NHS live well lose weight web-pages. There's a BMI calculator which will give you a rough idea of how overweight you are, a free 12 week plan and lots of good and free advice.
If you want reasons - well, we could all list out a wad of health gains from losing any excess weight you are carrying, from putting less pressure on your hips, ankles and knees, through risks of diabetes, to increased risk of a number of types of cancer.
But, in the final analysis everyone has their own reason for daring to take the bull by the horns and taking control of their body weight. Perhaps you're just fed up of being large, or the butt of all the 'fattie' jokes / remarks? Perhaps you just want to find the slimmer, lighter, fitter you that is there underneath all that extra weight? Perhaps you'er just fed up of lugging that extra weight around 24/7.
You know the first thought when I read your post is that you talk about someone or something to help you but reality is that you will only do it when YOU are ready ri do it...I do not deny that you will need a support but you have to also find your own reasons why you want to do it!!!good suggestions about NHS website info...start gradually and build it up 12 weeks plan is brilliant good luck x
Totally agree, the information on this site and the support is brilliant. Make a start and join the weekly weigh ins.
Good luck,it is definitely worth it for feeling so much better.
Hi monkey07,
Oh and nothing is wrong with you. That's a pretty typical stance.
Sadly, as you gain weight, your body adapts to the extra weight in a variety of ways, including changing how it secretes certain hormones which alter your senses of hunger and satiation.
So, sadly, the fact is overweight people tend to get increasingly overweight. (Which is one of the things that helped to push me to do something about my excess weight. Just what really was the alternative? Just get fatter and fatter? No flippin' thanks!)
Also the fat itself effectively functions as an organ and secretes hormones and other chemicals into your blood stream. Some of those chemicals increase oxidation and inflammation and increase your risk of certain types of cancer.
So, in the final analysis, you either keep going along the road you're travelling - as, to be blatantly honest, I did myself for far too many years - or you change how you journey through your life.
I feel so very much better in my lighter, slimmer, easier to move around in body, that I genuinely do hope you'll choose to do something about your excess weight. I unashamedly strongly encourage you to bite the bullet and get on with it.
My one regret (still) is that I didn't do that years earlier.
But you're the one that has to make the move. And - irrespective of whatever anyone says - only you will decide when the time is right for you to do that.
