Which fruit is best for weight loss/staying fuller for longer? i want to eat more fruit but know it can be quite high in natural fat and sugars so i was wondering which ones would be better for me when trying to lose weight and which ones are better for killing the hunger pangs

Two questions, a lot of fruit had a high water content and won't make you feel full! I find raw veg better for that, carrots baby sweet corn, sugar snap peas. Fruit can also be loaded with sugar and so calories, bandanas and oranges are around 100calories each grapes are not too bad but serving sizes are small! Have a look at the amount of calories in the supermarket pre prepared stuff to give you an idea. At the end of the day it's about calorie consumption if you eat more than you burn you will gain weight (even if it is healthy) start with my fitness pal ap and track how many calories you are eating then see where you can cut down or swap for better choices, good luck!

Thanks, I already have that app, I didn't even think about the water content :-\ lol

Hi rosie944,

The best fruits are probably the ones you like to eat. Yes, they can sometimes contain more calories than you perhaps expect, but they also contain vitamins and minerals which are all part of a proper healthy diet. Check out the calorie content of some of your favourites and work out what sensible portion sizes are for those and incorporate into your diet.

Vegetables too are similar. Especially 'green' veg which many of us probably don't eat enough of.

And both can be good sources of fibre.

And think of different and innovative ways of serving the fruit and veg to make your diet more interesting.

Good luck with your weight loss efforts.

Apples are only around 50cals and take a little longer to eat then some fruits. I would say bananas are best to fill you up.

Always vary the fruits you eat or life will become boring. Melons, pineapples kiwis, bananas, strawberries, grapes make up a fresh fruit salad. I always make up a large portion and keep in the fridge so you can take smaller portions as and when.Food should always look colourful and appetizing . Try a portion mixed with any fat free yogurt for breakfast. Delicious! Another tip is to buy the winter or summer frozen berries from any supermarket. They are delicious and full of anti-oxidents and certain berries are considered as speed foods to boost your weight loss and keep you fuller longer. Again try with low fat fromage frais or quark for an alternation to cereals or toast for breakfast. You can always try making up up a lovely berry terraine made with berries and sugar free jelly. Again makes a lovely healthy snack or dessert.

You should be mindful of the sugar content in Fruit, some are worse than other, obviously dried ones contain a lot. Berries have a lower carb/sugar content as rule and are often packed with antioxidants.

Grapefruit is meant to be really good, and I have found them to be quite filling on their own for breakfast.
