Hi everybody, just joined and still trying to get to grips with how this forum works,I'm 42 and retired early last may and since then I've found it extremely difficult to lose any weight,it's depressing me a lot as I'm sure like many of you I have a wardrobe rangeing from a size 10 to a size 18,nothing feels right anymore and even though I have a very supportive partner I think it's about time I took control of my own life and my weight, would be very grateful to make friends on here and for any replies

First let me welcome you to this wonderful site full of people who will give you all the encouragement and support you may need to help you through the programme.
My main community is the C25K running site. I now run 3 times a week for a minimum of 30 minutes. My weight is only 1kg less than when I started last May but I have dropped a whole clothes size, which is very pleasing!
You will feel hugely better just taking control of where you are at. Have you considered doing the C25K running plan? It's worth a look - it really does work!
Thanks so much for replying, unfortunately I damaged my knee 2 years ago on the cross trainer of all things and haven't been able to run since,I do try and jog lightly with the dog but have found that power walking works best for me,I definitely need to tone up though,I feel old and frumpy!
Hi, and welcome. I have toned up and changed shape by going to the gym to improve my core strength for running. I know in some places it is expensive to join a gym (I am very lucky here with local authority provision), but there is free access on this site to 'Strength & Flex' podcasts. Even if you can't do all the exercises it may help. Good luck with your weight loss journey.
Hi there, thanks so much for your reply, unfortunately I live in a semi rural area and don't drive so it's difficult for me to access gyms,I will definitely look into the podcasts though, thanks so much for your advice,I'm sure the further along I go in my journey the more my confidence will go and I will then be upto taking on new challenges
I know what you mean, although I drive I am over 20 miles from the sports centre, but although I used to be horrified at the thought of the gym, I now feel deprived if I go to town and don't get to go. I even carry my stuff in case I get an unexpected chance! Confidence definitely improved for me as I began to feel fitter and people started to notice my shape change. Good luck with your journey.
