Last Monday I weighed 13 stone 2.4 pounds, and today I weigh 13 stone 1.4 pound, so I've lost 1 pound this week! I'm really happy to have lost something, and I think it's the first Christmas that I've ever lost weight - as I usually gain several pounds...
On Christmas Day I tracked my food and drink intake, and I consumed a total of 3,121 calories that day. I also had a long walk on Christmas Day, and I've had a walk every day this week - even on a couple of rainy days. I think that definitely helped. I've enjoyed some treats but kept them to within manageable portions and not ended up over-eating.
I'm aware there are still plenty of festive foods around, so I need to remain 'careful' and try not to overeat or over-indulge. I'm hoping to consider some New Year Resolutions this week, as we come towards the New Year. Planning ahead has proved helpful over 2014, so I'd like to continue that strategy into 2015.
I'd like to wish everyone a great time with their New Year Celebrations, whether you're having a big party or just a quiet night of contemplation, and I'll hope to be here on Monday 5th January 2015 for another weigh-in.
I hope you'll join me today, and also next week to share your experiences. If you're new, then please join us. Anyone is welcome. We're a supportive group with like-minded goals of wanting to lose weight in a healthy and sustainable way, and we have a regular Monday weigh-in, which I definitely would like to continue in 2015, so I resolve to continue posting.

Morning lowcal. Congratulations on the weight loss, especially over Christmas! This week I have stayed the same, which I am very happy with as we were at my in-laws for christmas and there was loads of nibbles around and our routine was different. We still have loads of christmas food around the house as we did a load of baking in the run up and have not eaten it all yet, so I will need to be careful this week. I would like to lose at least one pound this week, as that would get me to 4 stone lost. This should not be too hard as one of my presents was the latest hairy dieters cookbook and there are loads of recipies in it we want to try! Good luck to everyone for the coming week and I hope we all manage to lose. Happy new year to you all!
Congratulations to you on staying the same over Christmas week, that is amazing! Like you say, the routine is different over Christmas and there are so many festive nibbles about. Great that you had a dieters cookbook for Christmas - very thoughtful present.
Good luck with your weight loss goal for this week - I know it will be challenging with all those left-over bakes etc, but hopefully you'll attain your 4 stone goal by next Monday. Good luck!
I alas must have consumed at least 8000 calories a day - and have put on 4 pounds - there the first to 'fess up!! That is despite some good hilly dog walks and a freezing cold bike ride.
Back at work today have promised myself a slimming chicken salad for tea tonight. I have also joined JanFantastic. Just need to get the rest of this festive week over and clear the fridge
Not to despondent - self inflicted injuries and all that.
Wow, 8,000 calories a day is a festive feast or two, and you've only put on 4 pounds - that could easily have been more than that! You'll soon lose it again, now that you're back to your normal routine. Great that you managed those hilly dog walks - they will definitely have helped. The freezing cold bike ride sounds particularly bracing! Well done for doing that!
Glad to hear you're not feeling too despondent - you've enjoyed Christmas and now you can move on into the New Year and shed that measly 4 pounds you put on and get back on track.
Hi Lowcal, I managed to lose half a pound this week and although it's not very much I would have been ecstatic just staying the same as I decided to eat what i like 24th-26th and with family not being local a lot of time has been spent in the car rather than walking to places. I've still got lots of treats sitting in a cupboard in my hall though so need to keep the willpower up... or just hope my partner eats them! Hope everyone enjoys their new year and manages to stick with their healthy eating plans
Congratulations on losing half a pound this week, that is really great! Well done! Also nice that you ate what you liked over Christmas - hope you enjoyed it.
Good luck with keeping your will-power going and sticking to your healthy eating plans.
I'll be joining you from next Monday with weigh-ins. I think I have survived Christmas fairly unscathed, I went out for lunch on Christmas which was a very good move: no cooking, no leftovers, no waste!
Well done on your weight loss this week. You are a very good example to follow,
I'm thrilled to hear you'll be joining us for next Monday's weigh-in. It will be great to have you join us. Glad to hear you've survived Christmas fairly unscathed - that is definitely positive! Hope you enjoyed your Christmas lunch - having it out sounds like an excellent idea - like you say, no cooking or leftovers and no waste.
Thanks for your encouraging words.
Look forward to catching up with you at next week's weigh-in.
Hi Lowcal and all, it's great that so many have come through the festive feasting lighter or unscathed!
Like Suzybenj, I have put on almost 4lbs, I'm not too despondent though as we do the whole Christmas shebang twice in less than 24 hours - with me cooking for 14 on Christmas eve for my side of the family, and then spending Christmas day at the inlaws and having the works all over again!!
I'm reigned in now until new years eve but I have 4 parties or nights out before our next weigh in and still struggling to exercise as have a yucky cough and cold which has settled on my chest
Good luck with your weight losses this week and have a lovely new years eve
Glad to hear you're not feeling too despondent about your 4 pound gain - you've had the equivalent of "2 Christmases" and it could easily have been more weight gain.
Great that you're 'reigned in' now until New Year's Eve - but those parties sound like they'll be challenging. Hope you have a plan to cope with them. Most importantly have a lovely time and enjoy them.
Don't go back to exercising till you have shifted your cough and cold - you need to stay healthy and not overdo things. Your body will want to rest and recuperate, so do make sure you help it to do that.
New to the site and looking forward to the next twelve weeks. I normally manage a couple days of good eating before reverting back to laziness and comfort eating so hopefully one week at a time I can make a difference.
A very warm welcome to you. Thanks so much for joining us today for this weigh-in. Great that you're due to start the NHS 12 week plan - I hope you'll enjoy it. I think the idea of coping week by week is a good one. It can be a challenging step to get on the scales, and especially challenging to then share your starting weight with people, but you've done both those things this morning, and now you can track your progress. Have you worked out your Body Mass Index (BMI) - that can be helpful. Ideally the normal BMI is the range to aim for. That's between 20 - 25 BMI.
Good luck with your first week. Look forward to catching up with you again next week.
It's been a long time! Well done - you've done brilliantly over this last year and the work you have put it has paid off.
I unfortunately have not had a good year with weight loss (big big understatement). I went back to old eating habits and have managed to put on 3 stone - very easy to do. I am now weighing in at 17 stone 7 lbs. My body is feeling the effects.
Since I last posted on here, we have moved house, changed jobs and have been working full time since March. By the time I get home I am exhausted! I'm still unable to walk far without pain and am having a third foot op on Jan 26th and will be on crutches for 2 weeks - I'd just like to be able to go for nice long walks again. A big positive is I started Pilates back in August and love it.
We are going away (Switzerland to a hotel) for New Year, so I will be happy not to put on much weight (that is more realistic than not putting on anything at all!)
My aim for 2015 is to lose the 3 stone that I have put on - doing it gradually. I'll be very happy with 1lb a week.
Happy New Year - and thank you for keeping this thread going.
I am really glad to see you again - it's been quite some time! I often thought, I wonder how Bispers is getting on, and I'm really happy that you've joined us today to update us on things. It's great to see you!!!
It sounds like you've had many changes to contend with this year. I hope that your house move went well and that your change of jobs is also going well too. You mentioned being very tired after work - and I hope you'll have some much deserved relaxation time in Switzerland over New Year. What a lovely place to celebrate the New Year in. You'll have lots of snow to look at - really idyllic!
Really glad to hear you've got your foot operation date set for the end of January - it must have been really difficult to cope with your foot pain for so long, and that is bound to affected your ability to exercise as much as you'd have wanted to do. Hopefully the third operation will be more successful.
It's good that you're enjoying Pilates - that does sound like great exercise.
You've set yourself a very positive goal for the New Year, and you'll feel better as your weight goes down. Losing a pound a week is really good, and I hope you have a great week this week.
Well done LowCal, I am so very impressed and to all of you who lost or stayed the same. I am holding my hand up today and saying for the first time since I started the weight loss programme at the end of June, I have put on weight........2.5 lbs!!! It's been a rotten last couple of months and surprised it hasn't happened before this so I need the wake up call.
I am sooooo looking forward to moving into our own house a week today (well all our furniture gets delivered on the 7th & 8th and great exercise to come, running up and down stairs) we can then buy the healthy foods that we want, eat how we want and when we want. I will have a room for a gym and can get back into the swing of it again. Having said that, it's been an eye opener and how easy it was for me to lose weight when it was just myself and my husband, but with family it is very difficult, especially when they need to gain weight rather than lose it. Excuses for me just don't cut it..........they are just a way to attempt to justify that I only have myself to blame.
So, this time next week, I intend to be back where I was and shift those gained pounds and heading back down towards that elusive 5 stone weight loss mark and heading then for the six stone loss!
Take care everyone and keep warm and hope our snow disappears soon!
I think you've done so well with your weight loss, and gaining 2.5 pounds over Christmas week is absolutely miniscule - it's an achievement in itself to gain so little at such a time.
Good luck with the house move next week - I hope it goes well. You sound like you're raring to go with regard to getting back to your usual routine and as you know, it has meant you have almost lost 5 stones to date - and is therefore extremely effective! You'll soon reach that 5 stone mark and be on your way to the 6 stone marker - I am impressed by your commitment and enthusiasm, and I think it's inspirational.
Hope you have a lovely New Year, and that you enjoy settling into your new home. By next week's weigh-in, you'll be about to move, so I'm sure it will be very busy, but hope to catch up with you then.
I agree, it's great to have this forum - everyone is really supportive and helpful to each other. Knowing we've all got similar goals and sharing our experiences really helps.
Hi Candystripe, glad to hear that your future is looking brighter! 2.5 lbs is not a big gain, quite small actually considering your situation lately.
I am all geared for my weight loss regime from 1 Jan. I have been eating clean and healthy, but not really low calorie enough for a weight loss. I feel more in control now though.
Good luck with the move preparations. I am moving 20 and 21 Jan.
Good luck with your move. We are dreading it as we have had so much in storage for a while and have kept adding to it over the last couple of years. We have things from the Middle East, UK, France and Portugal, hence the two delivery days. I think we'll be delving into boxes for many months to come but a great excuse to have a clear out and get rid of anything we don't need. Possibly won't even need to do any additional exercise......bend down lift up lol!
Ofc I'm only kidding I'm trying to show you that that's absolutely nothing haha especially for xmas. True perhaps try and cut a little better next year or be more aware anyways because 2.5 technically is a lot of calories still but 90% of people do way more damage at Xmas and would love for it to only be 2.5 hey with way u lose weight that's 2 weeks, some take 2 months to lose Xmas weight.
So chin up chuckles
Here's to a brilliant 2015 and hope you have a great January to kick it off
And I know for fact uv lost an Mount of Weight that simply some people just cannot do. Which shows a lot for your personality and mental strength.
I think you've done really well to only put on 2 pounds over Christmas. I hope you enjoyed your Christmas time, and I hope you have a good week this week.
I am new and although will start officially in the New Year (have started a bit) weight today is 147.6llbs (old fashioned - sorry) would love to join your group as everyone is so inspiring
A very warm welcome to you, and glad you are joining us.
It's great to hear that you're looking forward to starting officially in the New Year, and that you've already started a bit beforehand too - it all helps! No worries about weighing in using pounds - people use all sorts - kgs, stones, and pounds.
Have you seen the NHS 12 week plan? It's a great structure with lots of good advice and there are also some recipes. I was looking at one today for a simple fish pie, and that looked easy to make. I think I might give it a go later this week.
Anyway, I'll look forward to seeing you at future weigh-ins, and would like to wish you every success with your weight-loss goals.
I weigh in yesterday, now 154 lbs and have lost 6 lbs since my last weigh in on December 8th. I manage to control my food intake this Christmas. My husband and I had dinner with his parents and then the rest of the holiday, we were left up to our own devices. This festive season hasn't been to bad for us.
Here's hoping a blessed and healthy New Year to all.
Happy New Year to you too, and thanks for joining us for the weigh-in. Congratulations on losing 6 pounds since 8th December, that is incredible over the Christmas period - really well done!!!
Hope you enjoy New Year's Eve and that the New Year has lots of positive things ahead.
Lowcal
Congratulations. Unfortunately I've gone from 12 stone 13 pounds (my lightest in years) on 21st December to 13 stone 5 pounds today! So 6 pounds added over the Christmas week, even though I thought I was eating much more moderately than on previous Christmas'. Anyways I'm back to healthy eating now and hope the extra 6 pounds will be quick on and quick off. It does show how easy it is to put the weight back on with just a few days of not eating as healthily as normal plus less exercise than usual.
Really glad to hear you're back to healthy eating again after Christmas - I hope you enjoyed Christmas week and that you had a nice time. I'm sure your extra 6 pounds gained will come off quite quickly - like you say 'quick on' and hopefully 'quick off' again!
Hope you enjoy New Year and hope to catch up with you again in the New Year!
We'll done on your loss Lowcal, its a good thing to gain sometimes as I know it helps to refocus. Morning all, have been behaving badly all week and I expect it will continue till the cheese and wine mop up evening on Saturday I have lost 0.5 lb this week, goal is to try and stay below 10.10 thanks to you all for giving me the motivation to weigh in this week I thought if I didn't see the thread I wouldnt have to weigh in how silly! I need to keep my eye on the ball, thanks Lowcal could not do it without you - or maybe I could but it would be loads harder!
Congratulations for losing 0.5 pound this week, that is brilliant! You mentioned behaving badly all week, but I think with a loss, you can't have been behaving that badly!!!
Hope you have a great evening tonight, and wishing you a Very Happy New Year with continued healthy progress next year.
Thanks for your encouragement over the year, and looking forward to seeing you again at next week's weigh-in. Good luck with the cheese and wine mop up evening.
Good morning Lowcal and a happy new year to you! Huge congrats on losing weight over Christmas - that is no mean feat. I haven't weighed myself so will do so next Monday 5th and let you know how much damage I did over the festive period - am hoping to use the next couple of days as damage control! Thanks for the support you've given me since I joined this group with your kind words and encouragement.
I'll look forward to catching up with you on Monday for the weigh-in. Good luck with your 'damage control' over the next few days! Hope you enjoyed the New Year celebrations last night.
Happy New Year!!!
Lowcal

I am just in time to join you on your journey,I have yo yo dieted for so long, just before Xmas I did a detox Aloe Vera C9 cleanse diet and lost 6lbs ,it was expensive and did work but unfortunately over the Xmas I ate everything presented to me and have gained it all back,I am about 14st-4 and 5ft 5inches,I am starting from today eating healthy,I will not do a diet as such, but will keep in the healthy calorie range of 1500,which I think may be alright for me . I appreciate all the support I can get and if I have any help I can offer will also be delighted to do so,thank you and look forward to catching up with you all
Welcome to you. You've actually posted in the previous week's weigh-in - dated 29th December. There is a more recent weigh-in (today's date being 5th January), so just wanted to make you aware of that - I always put the current date of the Monday weigh-in in the title of the post. Anyway, I'm really glad you're going to be joining us for the Monday weigh-ins, and you are very welcome! It's great to hear you're starting today with healthy eating, and I don't know if you've seen the NHS 12 week plan - it's really good, lots of structured advice.
Anyway, have a great first week, and will look forward to catching up with you at future weigh-ins. Take a look at today's post (dated 5th January) to get the most up to date feedback from people, if you fancy taking a look.
Thank you and I am delighted to be in the Monday weigh in and I wll look more at the NHS 12 week plan. I think being part of a group effort will pay off as its encouraging and ideas from others is another bonus
Great! Wishing you a great week and look forward to seeing you in the Monday weigh-ins. Remember to look for the right date at the head of the post - the next Monday weigh-in will be on Monday 12th January.
Hi - I'm new to the site and would love to join your Monday weigh in group please. Weighed in for the first time in about 18mths just last Monday, triggered by not being able to do the seat belt up on a recent flight! Not pleasant, in fact downright scary! but am looking forward to the journey as this time I really feel I can do this, nothing like the phrase morbidly obese to wake you up! Looking forward to being a part of this.
You are very welcome to join in the Monday weigh-ins, and glad you're looking forward to your weight loss journey. That's a great attitude to have and should help to spur you on!
Do check the dates of the post (i.e. the latest Monday weigh-in that I post is dated 5th January, and the next one will be dated 12th January - and the title of the post will be 'Please Join Me for a Monday Weigh-in', and then the current date is in brackets.
Great that you are going to be joining us, and wishing you a great week. The NHS 12 week structured plan is really good - have you seen it? Lots of good advice there.
Yep, downloaded and being studied as we speak .. just recovering from walk and swim so hopefully some good news to report on the 12th. Feels different this time, for the first time I feel ready to do it!
That's great. Well done for doing your walking and swimming as well - both of those are great exercise. Hope you enjoyed them!
Feeling ready to do something really does help - it can make all the difference, and I hope you enjoy the 12 week plan and hopefully you'll have some good news to report on the 12th.
Look forward to catching up with you then. I usually post at 7am to 7.15am on Monday morning, so the post should be available by 7.15am on 12th (all being well!).
