I found that I had to eat half of my recommended daily Calorie intake in order to lose weight!

Ask your doctor for you thyroid blood work and look it up yourself online. NHS 'correct levels' are completely different to what they think is acceptable in the US. If you are more borderline by US standards (which I am) there are lots of things you can do to help your thyroid. There are foods that help/fight against the thyroid and being careful with your diet can pick you up a point or two on the blood work and make you feel much better.

I'd be very surprised if you thyroid is much of a problem. You probably wouldn't have been able to lose the 5 stone (congratulations btw!) if you had a significant problem. Have a look at how much you are eating on training days as opposed to what you are eating on rest days. More carbs are often required on training days but if you eating the same amount on rest days that might be where you are sabotaging yourself.

Yes, do check the actual energy value of what you are eating. It is possible to have a healthy diet which isn't a healthy amount for you as an individual. (If you keep a record you can show it to your doctor)

Do you have a rough idea of what you are burning in your exercise sessions? I have health problems which mean I need to be cautious and although I exercise as much as you (probably different activities if you are using a trainer), it doesn't add up to as many calories as other people burn. For example, I've been using MyFitnessPal to work out the calories for my swim. I do opt for 'leisurely' - doesn't feel leisurely to me but I know it is slow. However, entering the distance swum as well as time on RunKeeper indicates I am using at least 25% fewer calories than I thought :-(

Wow - congratulations on losing the 5 stone and getting plenty of exercise. Sounds like you are doing really well!

If it has become more difficult lately to lose weight have you remembered to adjust your calorie target to account for the weight loss. Losing 5 stone will have meant that your basic calorie requirements to keep your body functioning (i.e. BMR) will have gone down. Also you will use less calories for normal daily activity (going to the shops etc) and for your exercise. I'm sure you can tell yourself how much easier these things have got as you've lost the weight! I know I have after losing 4 stone :)

If you have worked all this out then take your food and exercise diary to your GP for a chat about what might be the problem. Hopefully when faced with the evidence they will take you seriously!

I don't know how much you still want to lose, but if you are close to your goal weight then it is fine to lose more slowly. After all what matters most is staying active and healthy. I aimed for 2lb per week at the beginning of 2013, since my BMI was so high it was making my life difficult. But now I only want to lose about another 10lb, so 0.5-1lb per week is a more reasonable goal for me. In 6 months time I want to be at a stable healthy weight and it won't matter whether it takes me the full 6 months or only 2 or 3 to get there.
