I am very happy today, because I've lost 3 pounds this week. I hadn't really lost much at all over the past month, and infact had gained a couple of pounds - so it's good to have finally lost some weight, and I'm hoping that I will be able to continue to lose over the following week.

My weight loss in total has been a stone since the 1st January, and I would like to lose another stone by the end of the year.

This week, I have kept up regular exercise (mainly a long walk rather than a gym session, as the weather has been better), and I've been trying to prepare healthy meals wherever possible. I think my food intake tends to include things that would fit generally into the Mediterranean kind of diet - in terms of eating lots of vegetables and fruit, and nuts, and I use olive oil when oven baking vegetables (red peppers, onions, courgettes etc) and I eat fish or chicken generally. I enjoy chocolate mousse for dessert most nights, and I also have a treat of half a large pizza once a week. I snack on nuts and fruit, or yoghurt, or toast with spread. I do track my calories and write down my food intake and exercise, so I can keep track of it, and not let it get out of hand.

Well done on Losing a stone Lowcal,its so hard to lose weight,I have lost 2lb but it has took 2 weeks, starting week 3 today and going to focus all week, not just for a few days, and will exercise, we have a Gym in our Community Centre car park,which I can see from my window,soooo no excuse,and the puncture fixed on my bike,lol,,so no reason for not exercising.

well done Lowcal,

If only losing weight was as easy as putting it on, but remember your losing, that alone deserves a big pat on the back. Anybody using this sight knows that losing weight is not at all easy but the fact your on here is a step in the right direction.

Well done to you Sandra on losing 2lb - that's brilliant, and it sounds like you're well motivated and also prepared (i.e. puncture fixed on your bike) to enjoy a week of activity etc.

Hi Lowcal, 3lbs this week well done!! My week two weigh-in today and still 12st 8 - not budged again!! Arrghh! I've been increasing my exercise but will definitely have to pay more attention to calories this week, exercising alone isn't going to cut it.

I followed your comments and have been on the Food focus website this week - do you find if you're religious about inputting EVERYTHING that you eat/exercise that you do lose the approximate amount of weight that it predicts??

Hi Supasister1,

Well done on increasing your exercise, and I'm sure you'll see the results re: weight loss very soon. Just stick with it. My weight was definitely 'stuck' for a few weeks, until today.

I use the Food focus site and find that I don't lose as much as it predicts, but I just find it useful to log how many calories I am eating, and how many I am using up in exercising, and I like to see the mix of carbs, proteins and fats etc. It's nice that it provides graphs over time, which I find interesting to view.

Well down on the weight loss. You must, and should be, chuffed to bits.

Me, I just can't stick to it. I can exercise and count calories but for some reason just keep counting passed the calorie count. Will try weighing in on Mondays with you. I was 9 stone 10.8 this morning. I've done 5km on treadmill and unfortunately had a small amount of buffet food- diamond wedding. Not mine. If I was diamond wedding age I wouldn't be bothering to get weighed.

My buffet was 856 cals....half ham sarnie, 2x mini sausage roll, slither of quiche, 7 Pringles, iced bun....I really don't think that's a lot but how the blooming cals add up!!

I agree with you how many calories can be in foods, especially buffets - they are so calorie laden - and usually very tasty!

It's great that you've done 5 km on the treadmill. I have done that before, but not for a long while, and actually find it very hard to keep going for that long. I tend to do 20 minutes on the treadmill, but I run in intervals of 9.5 for 4 minutes and then walk for 1 minute, and then repeat that another 3 times. Hence doing 20 minutes in total. Not sure how many km's I cover in that time, but I do feel like I've done a good work-out. I usually do 20 minutes on the cycle machine and then maybe 10 minutes rowing or 10 minutes on the cross trainer. That's a typical gym session for me, but I've been doing more long walks recently due to the improved weather.
