Went to appointment with Radiation Oncologist at Emory St. Joseph's Winship Cancer Center - Dr. Bruce Hershatter. Good guy, no BS, straight shooter.
He actually drew it out on a sheet of paper (front & back, back was worse) for me and talked me and my friend through the options (1) and pretty much shut the door on any other option than Hormone Therapy and Combination Radiation Therapy.
After all the explaining was through, I asked by when do I need to make a "decision". He said within 6 weeks from 6/24/24 would be desirable.
Last night, 7/09/24, after another follow up Q&A session, I pulled the trigger to start treatment. Not without much trepidation about what the treatment is going to do to "me" while it's killing the cancer.
Today, 7/10/24, I got a call from the Emory Specialty Pharmacy regarding the Dr.'s order for ORGOVYX . Great news! My insurance (Medicare Part D - Humana/Walmart) would approve the drug and my co-pay would ONLY be $990/month. Dr. is predicting 12-18 months of this drug (anti-androgen).
The lady that called then asked me if I could afford that. NO! OK, then she inquired about my income and said that due to my response I qualified for Charity Care which would cover the entire cost for 12 months and likely renew afterward should I need to continue to take it. PRAISE GOD!! All for now.
