Hi all, I am new here but I got diagnosed with PCOS last year during the start of the pandemic. Since then I have received no help or information regarding my PCOS. The Gynecologists' advised me to come back and get help when I want a child.... I am just wondering if anyone's received the same lack of interest or care from the doctors and hospitals. For me this has been an ongoing issue that took 2 years to be diagnosed and then when I got the diagnosis I got sent home with leaflet which has been no use or help. I dont even know what's caused me to have PCOS as I am only 6 stone and during the diagnosis I lost a lot of weight and went down to around 5 stone.
Just looking for some advice or help...

I guess what help do you want? When I was told I wasn't really to bothered...but at the time I was in my 20s and not looking to have children. As really that is the biggest issue for people. Not everyone has the same symptoms. I wasn't overweight or that hairy...so it was never investigated. But when it was I did have cysts on my ovaries. I didn't have periods and was told to take the pill as least 4 times a year..just to shed the uterus, as I believe that can have issues. But again, some people have periods. And now in my 30s I have irregular periods, but still periods. I guess what is your issue with it and why are you worried? Excessive hair can be an issue..etc. however PCOS not something generally you can just cure and it shouldn't kill you, it shouldn't even really even affect your life much, again about from the affects such as hairiness, spots, depression..but these can have effects in themselves..its more social. Mine actually did cure itself it a point I don't have the cysts anymore, but I can't tell you how or why...I would say eat healthy, stay active ..you sound super slim, almost anorexic, depending on your height I guess..please just look after yourself, that's the best thing you can do xx
When you say “received help”, do you mean help to regulate your period and keep yourself healthy? Because if you do, I get you, I’ve been told I have micro-PCOS a couple years ago and my doctor was just as relaxed as yours. She told me that having kids is absolutely possible with the right treatment, but I was not ready for that (I was about 21 at that time). She told me that my options were to either go on the pill or start a metformin treatment, but there’s nothing you can do to “fix” your ovaries. I’ve seen many ladies here using metformin, but I’m a bit worried to start it myself because it’s used off-label and I’m not overweight or affected by diabetes. I’m still looking for something that could help me get at least semi-regular periods naturally, as I was on the pill once and I didn’t feel good. I have friends who also have PCOS and they don’t seem bothered by it. I’d say try to have a good BMI and try to eat healthy and be active, as that will keep you overall healthy.
