I was put on metformin, i had to work myself up to taking 3 aday, so kne week i would take 1 tablet aday then next week i would take 2 tablets aday then the following week i would take 3 tablets aday and i would stay a 3 aday then, i was ok with it i had the odd day where i felt sick or had an upset stomach but i always found eating a biscuit or something just after i took it it helped me, i never fell pregnant as i stopped taking them x

Yes my gynaecologist said work your way up to 3 tablets a day for 6 months , sounds daft but when you have a period do you still take the tablets or stop till you’ve come off xx

Hi,

I was on Metformin years ago. My doctor slowly increased my dose. While it did help me to loose weight I was sick on it all the time. It eventually got better on the lowest dose but the effects were short lived on a lower dose and needed increasing. As soon as it was increased I became really really ill on it. I felt sick to my stomach and anything and everything I ate went straight through me. If I needed the bathroom I had to run to the bathroom because it wasn't waiting for me.

I persisted for months and gave it another go a little while later before my doctor took me off it as I was so sick all the time.

This is my experience and it isn't like this for everyone. Many people have an adjustment period and are fine afterwards, seeing positive results. But for me it really impacted my quality of life. The small weight loss wasn't worth feeling sick and being chained to a toilet all the time.

I wasn't ttc so this wasn't a consideration for me at the time.

I hope it works out for you. I would suggest when you increase your doses to do it when you can be around home for a few days, if possible, just in case you do have an upset tummy. I wish you luck and I hope it helps you in the way you hope for.

Hi! Just thought I’d give you some hope! Metformin was and still is my miracle drug...it allowed me to ovulate and therefore get pregnant twice and now I have regular periods! The doctors can’t explain why I need it but are now happy to keep me on it as it seems to work! I did originally have it alongside clomid (clomid on its own did nothing for me) so if the metformin doesn’t work for you you could try the two together X

That’s amazing to hear I’m so happy for you I hope it works for me 🤞🏻 My gynaecologist said I will take metformin for 6 months and if nothing then I will have to see a infertility specialist . Surly I can stay on it longer than 6 months x

Yes I would have thought so as diabetics take it long term, I’ve been on metformin for over 3 years now!

I’m on metformin because I have PCOS so not ovulating I’ve had two periods since last November 2020 but I get the medication next week so I’m excited to see what happens the end goal to fall pregnant would be amazing x

Yes I was the same, no ovulation so no periods but all my blood sugar/insulin tests were normal and BMI low so they’re not sure why metformin should help but it does!

My BMI is over than it should be I know I’m over weight by a stone and a bit so that hasn’t helped really so I am trying watch what I eat and everything my blood tests came back okay nothing concerning they said but my scan showed follicles on both ovaries x
