Hi, if you're getting stressed out by lack of periods (I know I do!) then you definitely need something to bring one on. Provera works well for me - just 7 tablets if I remember correctly, then you'll get a bleed. I think you're just going to have to persist with trying to get through to the doctor I'm afraid - they should all have someone answering the phones in working hours, or do they have an App? Good luck!
Hi lovely!
Once it gets to 90 days you must make sure you contact the doctor. I have within the last week and they have been super helpful with a telephone conversation and then a follow up on blood tests before we meet in person. Keep persisting with the doctors.
Hi Braidslover. I completely understand your anguish. We get told forever that a 'Normal' cycle is 28 days, give or take a bit. No one really talks about what happens if your cycle isn't like that, or if it goes haywire. Mine definitely go haywire fairly regularly. I agree with what the others have said. It is really important that you perservere with getting through to your GP. Try turning up in person to book an appointment if you get no joy over the phone. Do not be afraid to be insistant. Tell the receptionist in graphic detail about what is going on...it grosses them out and they often make room for you!
Provera is effective at bringing on a period. It might be that you need a system reset - That happened to me a couple of times. We need to have periods at least 3 times a year (according to my gp) in order to keep the lining of the womb healthy. That's why it is really important to get that appointment. Just a warning so you're prepared, if you do receive Provera, it will clear you out, so your bleed is likely to be heavy. Do not be afraid (it was a shock to me!) if you get clumps and clotty bits, or if it gushes out every time you move. I got through about 35 sanitary pads! But apparently, all was fine. It might not be the same for you. I hadn't had a period in a year at that point. Eat well, drink lots of water, and don't exert yourself that week. just think self care and calmness. I took the week off work as I couldn't be too far away from a loo!
It will get better, perservere. Your menstural health matters.
Definitely keep trying your GP- as others have said it’s important to have a few periods a year. In the mean time you could try changes to your diet and exercise to try and get your cycle back....I went gluten, dairy and sugar free a few years ago and felt so good, it didn’t get my period back alone as I needed drugs too but still made me feel healthier and less sluggish and at least I felt like I was doing something whilst I waited for help from the doctors. I need to try and get back to eating this way after having my baby as I feel so sluggish again! Good luck!
