I think I have PCOS?

I'm 21 and my periods have generally been irregular (I expect them to come every 4-6 weeks) but nothing too substantial. However, the past four months things changed. I did not get my period for 2 months and finally got it beginning of May, but now it is end of June and I again have not had my period for 2 months. My cycle is usually 39-40 days but now its 60 days and still I have not start it. I have chin and cheek acne for the past couple months that I thought nothing of, and I've gained a little bit of weight. Up until last week I've always had protected sex, and I've taken SO many tests that have been negative, but now I'm just worried about my fertility. I've called the GP but she said it was fine and it'll eventually come (my mistake though I did not mention PCOS). I'm going to start the mini pill soon too. Any advice? I have quite severe health anxiety anyway and I get very stressed out about it easily, and this whole experience is so frustrating for me. I feel like the problem is also dismissed a lot, as people just tell me oh it'll start eventually, it's fine. But it's my reproductive health and I'm concerned!

Hello,

You should talk with your GP about PCOS and the anxiety it gives to you, but I'd suggest you more to see another doctor, or a specialist. It will be quicker and more efficient. With your symptoms (irregular periods, gain of weight, acne) and your anxiety related to the potentiel problem, you should at least examine the specific hormones with a blood analysis (look on internet the ones that are interesting in PCOS, and ask all of them!), maybe do an ovaries echography (useful for fertility I guess)... But don't wait for doctors to point an eventual disease at your place!

It's not sure you have it (you didn't mention some hairs evolution) so it's not sure you have it. And if you have it, there are solutions to soothe the symptoms!

Good luck in any ways 😊 if you find you have PCOS, it'd be better than having waited.

Ps : I'm French so I'm sorry if I made mistakes.

Have a nice day 😊

Hey

Definitely go and speak to your GP as soon as you can.

You mentioned you had health anxiety so possible that your late period could be because you’re stressing?

If you do have PCOS then conceiving may be harder but the earlier you are diagnosed the better as then you can make informed life decisions.

I was diagnosed with PCOS ten years ago at 17 and I’ve been trying to conceive now for almost two years so it definitely does make things harder but not impossible at all.

Try to stay as positive as possible as even if it’s PCOS it’s not the end of the world. Xxx
