I have always had irregular periods and problems with my weight. I was trying to get pregnant for many years and finally had IVF, luckily this was successful first time and I had twins which are now 6 yrs old.
I (stupidly) didn’t know I had PCOS as this was never mentioned to me during my treatment. I only found out when I was in labour and the midwife told me during a random conversation. When I looked up on symptoms it’s so obvious and I have all is them except baldness.
I have tried every diet under the sun and have never been successful. I have now been researching gluten free and sugar free diets and didn’t know how beneficial they are towards losing weight? Any help would be greatly appreciate.
Thanks Jo

Hi! This kinda sharing is exactly the kind that gets me excited! It took me YEARS to figure out what worked for me diet wise and if talking about it can save someone time - I’m all for that!
Random woman in an infertility clinic said she’d gone gluten free to lose weight and get preggers and, although not much overweight, my journey started there. Regular blood tests, a clinic to support me, a diary and several diets later I have learnt a gluten free, low sugar, low meat diet works best for me. I went from irregular periods, to no periods to finally at 39 having a cycle. This timeline is quite common in pcos sufferers because hormonally we change with age but I believe a few things I’ve listed below..
My high insulin resistance was affected by how much sugar I had. I did a year off sugar and discovered my testosterone went to normal levels.
My weight stabilised without gluten in my diet.
The hormones we inject into our meat affect my balance. I went to organic meat for years and saw a return of a 4 monthly cycle - enough for the drs to leave me alone (without a period 3 times a year you’re at high risk of ovarian cancer and brittle bones). I finally went vegan in 2019 and almost immediately had a 40-day cycle. I’ve since returned to cheese but the period has stayed.
Thanks for that, I’m going to do a sugar free diet as the more research I’m doing the more scared I’m getting about my future health. I’m 40 next year and have small children so I need to start looking after myself. Thanks for the reply. People are really nice on here and it’s nice to have a place of support x
I'd recommend keto - low carb high fat. Visit dietdoctor.com for more information - it's good for PCOS and I e found it very effective for weight loss.
