Newly diagnosed and unsure about what to do

Hi everyone! I'm new here. Since I first got my period (about 13/14 years of age) they had always been super irregular (wouldn't get one for about 3-4 months on average). I didn't think much about it then. When I was 16 I went on the pill for contraceptive reasons and my periods became super regular. However, I am now 20 and stopped the pill last October and have only had 1 period since then. I went to the doctor and have been told I have PCOS due to a large follicle count and amenorrhea. However, considering that I am only 20 and I am not planning on having a baby any time soon should I be worried? The doctor told me going back on the pill will help control my hormones and bring back my period, but I am not too keen on going back on it. My concern is that the my PCOS might worsen if I do nothing about it? Can anyone please offer any advice on this? Thank you!

Hi... Try doing detox with beetroot juice on empty stomach with a healthy diet plan for amenorrhea. Waking up early around 6 or 6:30...taking a walk for an hour or doing skipping or any kind of exercise which sweats you a lot will help you manage most of symptoms. Your period will be regular with these lifestyle changes. Trust me you are too young to take a step in your life... If not now then you might end up with infertility when you reach 30....do mostly abdominal exercises like crunches and Russian twists which help manage pcos.... Dancing or zumba will also help get your periods on track...

Thank you for replying :) I do already live quite an active lifestyle and regularly incorporate a lot of high intensity training including abdominal exercises as well as my regular yoga practice. I would also say I also eat quite healthily (Have been vegan for over a year now and my main focus is on whole foods). Will try out some beetroot juicing though!

Hi. :)

I was diagnosed with PCOS in my early 20s (due to irregular periods, anovulation and polycystic appearance on a scan) and advised to lose 5-10% of my weight in about 6 months as I was about 100kg. I focused on doing this with exercise and portion control and managed to get down to 95kg, then 90kg a few years later. By this point my periods became regular and I have now conceived naturally and spontaneously.

It is an overwhelming diagnosis but losing weight definitely seems to be key to getting it in control. If you are already a healthy weight then I'm sorry my advice isn't going to help but know that you are not alone and it will be okay. Modern medicine is a marvel. My doctor told me when he diagnosed me that it meant I wasn't ovulating but that if I ever wanted to try to conceive they could easily give me meds to encourage ovulation.

I believe that the contraceptive pill can help give you regular "periods" but they are technically just breakthrough bleeds and I don't think it helps to stop PCOS worsening it just helps people control the symptoms, so don't feel that by not taking that you would be worsening your health.

Take care of yourself xx
