Hi, I’m 34 and I’ve been trying to get pregnant for the past 2 months but since I stopped the pill (2 months ago) I still haven’t got my first period. I’ve been on the pill since i’ve been diagnosed with PCOS almost 20 years ago! Anyone with similar experience? I’m panicking thinking that I can’t conceive
Trying for a baby: Hi, I’m 34 and I’ve been... - PCOS UK (Verity)
Trying for a baby
Go to ur doctor. I had the coil and had a year waiting for periods I think I got 4.over a 12 month period so that isnt enough to know if im ovulating and when
I got referred to a gynocologist who treated me based on my symptoms. I think they treat everyone differently depending on symptoms and ur own health ie weight
2 months isn't long to wait however appreciate u will feel like that. With pcos the likliehood of falling pregnant like some "normal" people where they just decide to try and it happens just isn't as easy. Mentally prepare urself that it could take a bit. I was months on my own and then had a gyno appt met her once she gave me these pills to try to help me ovulate therefore have a period. I got pregnant the 2nd month of trying the pills so by that point that was 13 months of officially trying however 2 months assisted.
I've known I had pcos for 20 years so when I came off the coil I kind of mentally prepared myself that this could take 2 years whilst hoping every other potential sign was a pregnancy.
I'm only 8 weeks pregnant and the worrying doesn't stop.
But for 2 months off the pill I would go to ur doc explain it situ and see if they will refer u to a gynocologist they may tell u to wait 6-12months. U have to be pushy about appt. Good luck. Don't stress just prepare urself for a wee.bit of a wait. Also make sure you are taking vitamins and he partner. The gynocologist also recommended to me I took something called inifolic it's expensive but I took it cause if it's recommended by nhs must be good and when ur trying I would try anything.
Good luck xx
Thank you for that. And congratulations!! How lovely that things worked out for you
I will hang in there for now and if the period doesn’t come in the next couple of months I’ll go to the doc. Thanks again!
Hi, it took me 2 months to get a period off the pill. They say you should have a period every 3 months so I’d go to the docs in a month. It’s quite normal to take a while so don’t worry too much yet. And with pcos, it’s rare you can’t conceive. It’s still early days so relax and enjoy x
Hang in there. I know it’s easier said that done, it may just take a bit longer. 2 months is nothing though even for non PCOS ladies I’m on month 10 at the moment! Chances are you’ll be fine, as frustrating as it is! It’ll happen
A period doesn't mean you are ovulating and you can ovulate without one too so don't focus solely on a period! Look at the fertilityfriends website as it tells you the signs to look for to show you are ovulating! One advantage of pcos is our egg quality remains better for longer so ignore the ticking clock as you have years before it needs to be listened to. I was 36 when I conceived Noah who is now 11
Which contraceptive pill were u on out of interest?
Thank you so much! It really helps hearing other people’s experiences especially the ones with happy endings
I was taking Gedarel. Does the type of pill make a difference?
It is a combined pill which is good so hopefully your body is less pcos. If you haven't had a period for another month or so then go to the GP to ask for provera which will force a bleed. I would start charting your temperature to see what your body is doing as you may well be ovulating. I was odd in that I had relatively regular periods but rarely ovulated, you learn a lot on the TTC route I have to say. Good luck.
I came off the pill after 18 years, I didn't know I had pcos. Although my periods started straight away they were totally irregular often nothing for 3 months. The doctor said it can take up to 1 year for your body to return to normal after the pill and did suggest i was lucky to be getting periods at all as some women dont for ages.
If you've already been diagnosed with pcos your doctor may be able to give you something like provera to jump start your periods. Try not to worry too much but if you are worried speak with your doctor. Best of luck.
Your probably having a pill withdrawal amenorrhea - your ovary's have temporarily gone to sleep after 20 years of the pill telling them not to ovulate. wait t will come back, also you could try reflexology trust me will work!
