I was diagnosed with PCOS 2.5 years ago and have been successfully managing with Yasmin contraceptive pills.
Although my symptoms have resided and things seem to be normal.. I have started experiencing discomfort in the problem area within the last few months. I would normally have slight discomfort on approaching/during my cycle, but this pain is a bit more intense (the best way I can describe the pain is both sides of my ovaries feel taught/tense/sore) and not just at times during my cycle but also sporadically throughout the month.
It’s not a consistent pain, it only lasts anything from a few hours up to a day at a time (longer during menstruation).
I have booked an appointment with my doctor however I want to know if anyone else experiences regular discomfort, whether you’ve had it looked into and hopefully any tips on alleviating/stopping this from happening?
Pain is often a symptom not mentioned in textbooks but (while I cannot speak for others with PCOS,) speak to a specialist and they’ll say a number of PCOS patients do complain of pain around their ovaries.
It can be chronic or acute (lasting a few hours or days as you described) and is as far as I know from irritation of the pelvic lining due to small leakages of cysts.
Speaking to your doctor is a good plan as always good to seek advice! I’m not sure what can be done about it but it’s not uncommon and shouldn’t have much effect, although in some rare cases if a cyst ruptures badly it can cause bleeding so always best to be aware although it is rare!
Take 3 months of Yasmin back to back, if it is pcos related then this should reduce symptoms further, if it carries on then it may be worth doing a diary to make notes on when it occurs.
It isn’t uncommon to have endometriosis with pcos but this tends to be painful constantly I believe
