Daughter with ongoing period

My daughter was diagnosed with pcos 18 months ago. She is 19 and had very infrequent periods, gained a lot of weight in a short period of time and acne. Recently she has started having periods every two weeks and more recently seems to be constantly on her period and loosing clots of blood like stuff like you do with a regular period. Her skin has flared up again and she is extremely tired and anxious. She has had a cervical screening for which we are awaiting the results, 3 weeks ago. Is this normal for pcos to cause constant periods as well as infrequent periods? Has anyone got any experience of this and what could we do to improve it? Her selfesteem is getting worse and she really is trying. She is watching her diet, going to the gym three times a week. She had a blood test recently which came back all clear.

Hi, I don’t know if this will match the heavy periods but maybe she has underactive thyroid? I really struggle with tiredness, bad skin, my hair falling out and weight gain and for years have thought I had underactive thyroid. Had numerous blood tests with GP and morning diagnosed. It’s only that I am under a consultant at the hospital for infertility that they have diagnosed me with underactive thyroid and PCOS.

I have been on the combined pill on and off for 30 years and, for me, it helped with all the pcos symptoms and made it much easier to lose weight as well. I took 3 months of the pill back to back as it reduces the symptoms further, which causes no issue. There was quite an interesting documentary on BBC2 Horizon I think about the contraceptive pill so may be worth watching if you can find it.

The pill can take 3-6 months to settle down (I am on Yasmin) and am still allowed to stay on it at nearly 50 as it controls the symptoms so well (my blood pressure is perfect and my weight is ok)
