Nobody understands...

Hi everyone,

As I'm sure you all are too - I am so sick of my periods and having time off work for them every month! My employers have been quite relaxed with it until now, I feel like my colleagues are starting to get annoyed with me for having 1/2 days off each month. Everyone just thinks I'm being a massive drama queen but my period pain is so severe that I usually throw up all day long meaning I can't work.

It's so hard living with this constant illness that nobody understands! It's really getting me down - even considering going back on the pill to control them again.

How do you all cope with this each month?

Have you been checked for endometriosis ? May be worth going on the endo forum to to ask ladies with the condition, pain generally isn't pcos related but is for endo and it isn't uncommon to have both conditions.

The other option is to go back on the combined pill and take 3 months on the trot as it reduces the symptoms massively, you do not need to have a break at all according to new information, the break was done back in the 60s as they thought women wanted it to feel more normal but there is no scientific reason to have the break. There are other options too like the coil as well as you do not bleed on it.

My gynaecologist didn't really give the possibility of endo much time. From the very first consultation with me, he was convinced it was just PCOS but as you said I think it could be PCOS and endo. I'm going back to the doctors this week to try get another referral to have a laparoscopy just to get peace of mind in case it is endo. I will keep trying and I'll look into those other options mentioned! Thanks for your reply :)

Sadly they seem to clump everything with pcos and it often isn't - just the easiest to get you out the door!!!

I dont know much on endo so maybe chat with ladies on that forum and get their opinions

Yeah it seems to be that! I don’t know why but doctors just seem to not be fussed about looking into it. I have tried the pill and it did work for a little bit but as I tried to say to the doctors it doesn’t actually tell me why I experience this and I want to know why. I will try the endo forum aswell, thanks! :) x

I know exactly how you feel. I am currently in the process of moving jobs because of this. I am having to change to part-time work due to being so unwell. In the past couple of years I've been admitted to the hospital due to my "periods". Both times, unfortunately they thought I was having a miscarriage due to the amount of blood and the fact I was having contractions. I had not told my job this, due to when I said I wasn't well, they told me I had too many sick days already and needed to sort it out.

The pain may be from a ruptured cyst? Is it every month that you have pain? As the other poster said, I can't think of another reason PCOS related that you may be having pain.

I would really consider your options when taken the pill. Although it may cause some short term relief, in the end, it may cause more damage than help. I took the pill for two years because doctors told me it would fix my periods. When I finally came off them, the above happened. This was due to the fact I still was not coming on the 'week break', so my lining was too thick. This obviously doesn't mean it'll happen to you, but the pill doesn't fix the situation, just controls a symptom briefly.

I hope you feel better soon ox

Thank you so much for your reply! Although it’s a horrible situation, it’s so nice to be able to talk to someone who understands exactly what I’m going through. Sorry your job aren’t understanding on something that isn’t exactly in your control!

Yes it could be that. I used to only get the severe pain and sickness every 5/6 months but now I get it every single month. Not really sure why it changed?

Yes that’s exactly how I feel about the pill! I really wanted to get through it naturally without relying on the pill. It’s just so frustrating how often it ruins my plans by wiping me out for a day! But I’m going to try continue resisting the short term relief because like you said it probably won’t help me long term.

Thanks again for sharing your experience xxx
