I was really hoping today would be the day that I got some answers but no such luck.
My doctor referred me on to a gynea as while my scan came back consistent with polycistic ovaries again, my testosterone is low (actually close to under normal levels, despite being high in the past - I wondered though if this is linked to high cortisol which lowers testosterone and could explain why I have high fasting blood glucose readings). I've been feeling so stressed and anxious and was really hoping that my referral appointment would shed some light. Instead the gynea told me he couldn't access my last blood test so wants to run three more and then I need to go back to him in two month. I just burst into tears. I went for the first referral appointment I could get, which is a hospital miles away, just because I wanted to get answers quickly and now I'm really sad I did. I just burst into tears. Really embarrassing. He asked if I had any symptoms and I didn't get a chance to answer through my tears (also, the only symptoms I know are what I read online so skin tags - yes, loads, thinning hair - yes, hairy - only tummy, back and toes (random!), high fasting blood glucose, oily skin - yes, spots - yes, worst acne into my late 20's - not bad now).
So I really don't know. I am going to go back to the doctor about my fasting blood glucose readings which are consistently high in the mornings. If that is insulin resistance (my hca1c was 40mmol but my fasting readings are consistently between 3.5 and 3.9). I can do something about the insulin resistance in the mean time at least I will feel like I am doing something - otherwise you just feel so out of control I think I also need to tell the doctor that I have been taking St John's wort for about 8 years. I didn't think I would need to as it is herbal but through researching PCOS and insulin resistance it looks like it can have an affect on blood glucose and TSH levels, and that you aren't supposed to take it for more than 3 months, yikes...
